Windham called the meeting to order
and in introdueeinf Judge Jackson,
made h telling speech, which was
loudly applauded. Judge Jackson, a
line appearing gentleman, who is a
Candida to for attorney general, epoko
for half an hour devoting his time to
local b into issues. Judgo Jackson is
not mi orator, but his standing as a
lawyer, and a good cili.'.en makes him
a winning candidate for the position.
The speech of tho evening, and one
of the best ever delivered here, was
that of 11 J. ilainer of Aurora. Ho
was logical and argumentative, aud
his speech fairly bristied with telling
facts which o to fortfy the republican
position, and maUo it impregnable.
Tho crowd instead of dwindling as
at tho i -oceiit democratic meeting
gradually grew larger until nearly
every seat was taken. Such speeches
:is Mr. llainer makes are instructive,
and cannot help but l e of benefit to
the party of progress which grows
beat by a thorough discussion of its
pi-i nei pies.
He Shot to Kill.
The lawsuit which followed a dispute
at the Sokal hail last winter made
considerable bad feeling, and came
near resulting last evening in a
tragedy. Jt seems tliet one of tho
parties mixed up in the lawsuit was a
bohemian named Micka, who works
for Steimker. Last evening he met a
boy who was on the other side of the
cusp and at a distance ot a few rods he
began shooting at him with a riille
Tho bullets hit all round the boy, but
fortunately did n t strike him. No
arrests has yet been made as the
county attorney has learned that the
fellow is probably crazy, and he is not
sure on wlrtl grounds to proceed
against him. Something, however,
wiil lo done about tho matter tomorrow.
