Omaha live stock receipts, while
showing ti very gratifying increase
over last year, ate not large enough
to supply the demand. Practically
nothing has been shipped from hereto

spite of comparatively small receipts
and a good demand. On the oihe
hand with light receipts at Chicago
the market is very apt to be stronger-
there and it is safe to figure that the
market will be stronger at Omaha,
even if receipts should be unusually
heavy. The moral of all this is very
evident. Send more stock to Omaha
and less to Chicago and the averaye
af prices is bound to be better all
iround. Shippers should keep this
ftict in mind and always remember
that the demand here is now more
than suT.cient to take caio of any re
ceipts, however large they may be

Plattsmouth is now on the long dis
tance telephone line, and people here
can converse with friends in Uoston,
New York, Chicago, and other east
ern cities with as much satisfaction as
if they were only a few blocks away.
The long distance telephono company
entered Omaha only a year ajo and is
already doing a good business, and
superceding the telegrapli in many
instances. One firm reports by tele
phone every morning to its corres
pondent in Boston. Mr. Arthur S.
Kodgers, the affable representative of
the company was in the city today
and made the News a pleasant call.
Death of Louis Schicketmiz.
Louis Schicketanz who tvsidt d when
a small boy in this city, has b-'en a
resident of Council LJ luffs for several
years. While attempt ng to board a
motor train there, which was running
rapidly, he fell under the wheels and
was instantly killed. He wa a neuhe
