Along tho top of the car on each side

Tho work of gathering up these sup

number of public spirited ladies and
gentlemen of this city, whoaro happy
in the consciousness of duty well done.
But particularly is tho success of the
enterprise due to tho untiring elTorts
and able management of Frank J.
Morgan and his wide awake assistant,
Mr. Henry Tarlsch. Their good deeds
will not soon bo forgotten they will
live many days after these kind
citizens have passed beyond the vale
of earthly caro.
Tho tra'n consists of twenty five
cars, tho transportation on which
would amount to $1,500, which amount
may be classed as the Missouri Pa

kind act of President Goo. Gould of
New York.
A largo number of citizens gathered

see the train pass through and bid it
and those in charge God speed on the
great errand of mercy.
Kaimway Team.
A team belonging to Wm. Craw
ford, the gardener who lives in the
western part of the city, broke loose
from a hitching post on lower Main
street this morning ana made a lively
run up Main street about 10 o'clock,
but accomplished no great amount of
damage. Mr. Crawford states that he
was driving a colt this morning and
took extra precautions to prevent acci
dent. He thinks the colt became
frightened at a moving train or by
paper flying about the street which
caused them to break loose and run
away. The wagon collided with Un
ruh's furniture wagon in front of Un
ruh's furniture store, damaging it to
some extent and also ran into a team
belonging to Mr. Dinsniore's standing
in front of the Fitzgerald block. The
tongue of Mr. Crawford's wagon was
broken by this collision and also the
tongue of Mr. Dinsmore's buggy. The
horses were caught by men on the
street and the excitement was
soon over. There was a large number
of teams on the street at the time and
it was fortunate that no casualties re
sulted. lie Climbed a Tree.
Deputy Sheriff McBride and Con
stable Denson went out to Bohemian
town last evening to serve a subpoena
on a good Bohemian citizen who was
wanted as a witness in the Sokol case.
When the dgputy went to the door anc
called for the man of tho house he
discovered that the lady could not
understand English very well and
could not speak it at all. He made
her understand, however, that he was
an officer of tho law and wanted her
husband to come into court. When
the lady come to understand the situa
tion she stretched out her arms in an
explanatory manner and siid "shoot,

not looking for any difficulty with a
woman he got a "hike "on himself.

papers in this locality learned of the
"conversation " he explained that the .

Tlie Forum of Trajan.
A few years ago the forum of Trajan
was used as a depositing place for cats
which were not wanted, but as it does
not present the same facilities of retreat
and hiding as the forum of Augustus
street hoys and others took every op
portunity of stoning the unfortunate
animals. Finally the authorities, after
mauy complMnts, refused to allow any
more cats to ba thrown there, and in or
der to get riil of those already living in
tho forum presented ouo to each sentry
box cu the walls of the city. They all,
however, speedily disappe-ared from
their new homes, some returning to the
foot of Trajan's column, where they
were cither killed by the street boys or
transferred to the forum of Augustus,
while others, it was whispered, were
sold by the sentries for a few centimes
to enterprising yormg medical students
in search of subjects for dissection.
