true that woman started tho clothing
business when eve arrayed herself and
Adam in fig leaves, it would 6eem that
after 6,000 years woman ought to own
her own clothing, yet when a Con
necticut man burned all his wife's
clothing it was held that he could not
be punished because they were his
property, not his wife's. They taunt
the suffragists with trying to wear the
men's clothes; but, in fact, we have
been wearing men's clothes since we
left the Garden of Eden."

Mrs. Nancy II. Gilmore, wife of
John Gilmore, deceaeed, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Davie,
February J, 1S98. She was the daugh
ter of Joseph and Helen Massie. Born
in Highland county, Ohio, May 28.
1830, making her age at death, sixty
seven years, eight months and twenty
four days.
She was the mother of eight chil
dren, all of whom are living except
one, which died in infancy. She
joined the Methodist Episcopal church
at fifteen years of age, and has been a
silent worker ever since. During
her last illness, she was as ever, the
loving, patient mother, conscious un
til the last, she called her children
and friends about her and asked them
to prepare to meet her in Heaven.

welcomed, but no one wanted to see it

above Omaha. The M. P. had cot
been able to telegraph headquarters in

nesdav noon. Chicago was cut out
nearly all day yesterday. The loss by
breaking: of wires and poles on all the
southern lines.is quite heavy.
At Schuyler this morning snow had
fallen to the depth of one inch, and
no sleet to amount to anything had
been deoos'ited.
Missouri and Eastern Kansas were
the heaviest sufferers, though South
ern Iowa and Illinois came in for part
of the loss.
