Epworth League State Convention.
The executive committee of the
Nebraska State Kpwortli League
met in the Y. M. C. A. building in
Lincoln on the 'Jlst.
Among other important matters
attended to were the arrangements
for the next state encampment of
the league. The convention is to
lie hehl in Omaha June 1,2. Hand 4.
A programme of unusual excel
lence is in preparation. The com
mittee are assured of the presence
of Kev. Schell, general secretary of
the national league mid other emi
nent divines are expected.

Tames Mathews, last week sold
twenty acres of good farming land
near the poor farm belonging to
Philip Donovan to a Mr. Lindaman
of Kearney, county for $1,100.00. Mr.
Lindaman will move his family
here and plant his email farm in

Mrs. IL C. McMaken is seriouslly
ill with erysipelas.
While Prof. Murphy was lecturing
in Kltnwood last Saturday evening
some one with more cussidness
than sense rang the fire bell, which
caused a panic in the hall for a
time being which came near being
a serious affair.
J. F. Hinshaw left last Friday
with D. F. Foster for Oberlin, Kan
sas where Mr. Hinshaw will erect a
house for Mr. Foster. Mr. Hinshaw
made the frame work here in his
shop and shipped it to Oberlin, and
all he has to do now is to put it together.
William Deles, a farmer living
near Klmwood was a visitor to
Plattsmouth last Friday.
Charles Kleiger of South Bend
precinct delivered several wolf
scalps to the county clerk and got
his warrcnt for them last Friday.

ale of South Bend were here attend
ing court last week.
Dr. J. F. Brendel and Robert Wil
kinson of Avoca were in town last
week attending court.
Dr. M. M. Butler, ; post-master of
Weeping Water was in the city last
Friday.
A. M. Hansen, the popular young
butcher at the Petersen meat mar
ket, is in receipt of the sad intelli
gence of his mother's death, which
occurred on Frb. ,r)th in Denmark.
She had been suffering with a
tumor for the past four months, and
beingover seventy years of age, had
not the validity to rally. The aired
father will journey from Denmark
to this country in a few months, and
will make his home with his son in
this city.
Mr. Wm. Rummell.a thrifty young
farmer who resides southwest of
town, was united in marrijge at the
court house last Thursday to Miss
Maggie Holfart, Judge Ramsevofti-
ciating. Mr. Ruinmell and his bride
are well and favorably known in
this community, and a host of
friends will join in the wish that
they may enjoy an abundance of
wedded bliss.
C. W. Sherman has W. J. Bryan's
pledge for the post office here and
seems to think that he will get it
without any trouble, he tuts in his
office and laughs at the democrats
hustling for names, but we will
wage a big red apple that Brother
Sherman is left when the time
comes as Billy is loosing his hold
in Washington.
Oliver C. Dovey and wife left last
Monday for the east on a sight see
ing trip, they expect to be in Wash
ington, 1). C, on March, 4th.
S.ini Archer's team ran away
Monday afternoon and ran into the
lamp post at the corner of sixth and
Main street in front of the First Na
tional bank, breaking the lamp
post off close to the ground, when
the horses were caught one was
bleeding at the nose and the other
one was unhurt.
In the case of Bertha L. Morton
against the heirs of the Cole estate
a verdict was rendered by Judge
Kamsey, Saturday 111 favor of the
defendants.

A pleasant evening was spent at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sul

Last Saturday while Switchman
Vorndran was coupling cars in the
B. & M. yards the draw-head from
one one of the cars fell on his foot
smashing it so badly that he will
be laid up for a while.
Last Sunday night during the
snow storm it lightened and thun
dered just like it does in July dur
ing a thunder storm. It was a freak
of nature that one rarily sees.
Mrs. Louis Nielesand Miss Jennie
Brown of Corydod, Iowa, are in the
city visiting with the wife of Cloth
ier Joe Kline this week.
The damage suit of S.H.Sawyer
vs. the village of Louisville has
been settled by stipulation in dis
trict court. Sawyer brought suit to
recover If 200 in damages which he
claimed as compensation for an in
jury received in a runaway
and because of faulty grading in
an alley in that village. According
to settlement the plaintiff is allowed
judgment for SflOO, while the de
fendant pays the costs.

S. H. Atwood has brought suit in
Justice Archer's court against T. 15.
Anderson, a C, B. & (J. conductor,
to collect $72.75. which amount is
due on a note since 1S.SG.
Judge Chapman has remanded
the assault and battery case against
Fred Kroehler back to Police Judge
