Considerable interest was mani
fested in the Weber case which
came up iu Judue Archer's court
last evening. The ground was
vigorously contested on both side.
The testimony of Police McGuire.
corroberated by Denson appeared
to prove violation of the ordinance
in question, though the defense
introduced testimony flatly deny
ing the lutusatioim. The defend
ant admitted having retained a
crowd in the saloon after 11 o'clock
but alleged that no beer was drank
during that time, notwithstanding
the powitivc statement of the police
that lie saw Weidmann draw four
glasses of beer from the vault.
judge Archer deemed the testi
mony not Hulliciently elusive to
warrant u conviction oud the de
fendant was accordingly dig
charged.

What Will Plattemoul h Do?
After it became evident that
President Croau would consider a
proposition for the establishment
of the Western Normal College in
Pla tsmouth, ?rof. Halsey wrote
bin. a letter laying our i.d.'iintaes
before him. The following is his
reply:

W. N. Halhky, Plattsinouth, Ne
biaska:
DlCAK SIK---A111 in receipt of your
letter and will say in reply that all
of the points you mention will
certainly give Plattsinouth protni
nence for the location of an educa
tional institution. The question I
would ask iu reply, is, What would
Plattsinouth give to secure the
lar-st normal school in the world?

certain
citizens are all per
aware that the benefits
to accrue from such un
institution would be diflicult to
estimate from a pecuniary stand
point, not considering the varied
incidental benefit certain to be
derived. All admit that something
must be done to keep our town
abreast of the times. Do our real
estate owners consider this matter
of sufficient importance to give it
their attention? If so, let us move.
If we remain perfectly inactive, let
us ever hereafter keep the peace,
"The question is, What will Platts
inouth give to secure the largest
normal school in the world?"

The teachers of the city schools in
conjunction with thcpopular janitor
D. K. Harr, presented Superinten
dent McClelland with a handsome
books case and secretary's desk
combined, this morning. Prof.
llalsey made the presentation
speech in which lie assured the
popular superintendent that this
token of esteem was only a feeble
manifestation of the high regard
in which he is held. Superinten
dent McClelland was taken com.
pletely by surprise and he con
fessed that he found it difficulty to
find words to express his gratitude.
It is indeed well that perfect
harmony and unity exists between
he superintendent and teachers as
hearty co-operation is absolutely in
despensible to a thoroughly suc
cessful school. The splendid con
dition of our city schools is only
the legit imite sequence to this unity
of action and purpose.

id goods and Solid Niekel Silverware: "There has been a grow
ing demand for years for a grade of Spoons and Forks to take
...' J. the place of Solid silver and plate ware. We have experimented
for some time to attain this end, nnd are now able to offer the public our
Rogers' Metal and Rogers' Solid Nickel Silver. We guarantee this metal
superior to any Nickel Silver manufactured and have the greatest confi
dence in assuring our customers that this ware is inferior to serviee on
ly to solid silver. It is a beautiful white color, is highly polished and
can hardly be distinguished from pure silver. We recomend this ware
especially for hotels, restaurants and boarding houses, as it will stand
more hard usage than any other metal; is very tough and hard; will hold
its crdor unci will outwear any idateware ever manufactured." All our
customers know Rogers' ware by reputation. This iirm have manufac

are not of a high grade, so our customer can rest assured that they are
getting some very desirable goods when they pet goods under iheii
