Shall we Play BallT
Our exchanges from the larger
towns throughout the slate arc,
wiihout cx.eption, commenting
favorably upon the proposed plan
of organizing a stato base ball
league. In relation to the matter
an exchange has the following:
"With a $Ci) a month salary
limit, plenty of good players can be
had. Three months of ball playing
during the year will be suflicient,
commencing June 1 and ending
September 1. Towns like Fremont,
Grand Island, Kearney and Hast
ings in the west end, and Platts
mouth, Nebraska City and lieatrice
in the east eud, it is thought, can
easily pull through the season
without loss an I possibly make
ron:e money. It will be in order to
Cull a state leajue meeting during
the holidays, and let every base
ball enthusiast of the different
towns attend and air themselves on
the subject."
In the event that I'luttsmoutli
bane ball enthusiasts should con
clude to join the proposed league
there is little doubt that "our team
could cope successfully with the
most expert. TlIK IlKkAI.I would
like to sec the matter looked after
by our local sorts.
A number of our readere called

of commendation. We have a few
eilia copies yet on hand.
The Lincoln Journal has the fol
lowing to say of Charles Mayer, of
the linn of Muyer Hros. of this city:
"Charley Mayer, of (he firm of
Mayer ISros., knows a good thing
when he sees it. It is only two or
three weeks since be saw it at the
home of his elder brother, Simon I).,
in the form of 11 bouncing baby
boy. Yesterday afternoon Charley
came down town In great glee. He
had achieved the acme of human
ambition. At noon a baby boy just
about an bouncing as any of them
had put lu an appearance at his
home and life had new joys for
him. At last accounts health and
happiness reigned supreme at the
