He preten s to iutcrview a list of gentlemen who were, as lie says, counted off of the petition. Mr. Race's star performance a3 a sneak and hypo crite comes in when lie represents to tluse men that their names were not counted, jet were on the p'it'tion in a lawful manner. Here is his interview with C. II. King, a man with whom most of our people are acquainted, having lived heie as (sheriff of the county ac an early day: "C. II. King 13 justly indignant. Says he, "I am well known to the old inhabi tant of Plattsmuuth. When I go there, they shake hands, paw the air, and act like a lot of school boys, tit th renewal of old associations. For thirty two years I have been a voter in the county. Todd was not a voter when I came, and Tritsch had not left the old country. Now if I am not a yoter, what the devil Ami any way? Ami will you tell me what lam?" Well, you are a blank blankety fool tf you take any stock in the misstatements of your county seat crunks. If you will look over this much talked of petition you will find evey name has been count ed that tl;e law vould permit of. You may have lived here for three centuries, but if you did not sign the petition :i t!ie law directs no commissioner who valued his oath would count your name. The law very plainly states what shall be done, and any rditor who-e chief disiie is not to deceive the people, would, alter looking in:o the question, s :y th' t the commissioners were honest and fair. If t'lis pet'tion was all riieht. why di I you i.ot follow it up in the comts, instead of getting out and circulating a new pet i t on? You are a convicted liar by yo'.it own acts, Mr II ice, und you know it, and you ought to have enough respect for the intelligence of the good people of ("ass county to n- t thi:.k you can deceive 'hem with such die p ialk as you have been indul'rii'g in There never was more law-abiding board of county coin i 'issioners in this county than tne one we now have. The last se lection, "How Johnny Killed tbe Bear," completely captivated the audience aud it was plain to be seen that they would have greatly enjoyed another hour of such an entertainment. We understand Miss Day is willing to do some work in elocution and calisthenics in our schools if she receives the proper encourage ment. It is needless to say that such work would be a great addition to our already popular school course. Clara Wilsoh. The First Step.
