As regards Guthrie, the town is about
as dead as it was once lively. It is com
pletely over run with gamblers and con
fidence iiK-u who came with the mob to
prey off the miseries or the unfortunate.
Gambling is carried on with reckless
abandon. Water is scarce at five cents a
glass, and but fcr the wise provision of
the government in prohibiting tha sale
or importation of liquor into the terri
tory, there would have been some bloody
scenes.
Every man carries a weapon openly,
from a 22 calibre fly killer to a 44 Coifs
navy revolver with its accompaniment
of cutler-, and while no serious distur
bances have occurred, they are liable to
break out at any moment. The mass cf
people that invested their all, in getting
to the strip, are disappointed, disheart
ened and discouraged.
Such as were fortunate enough to
squat unmolested on a piece of land, are
in the country too late for raising a crop
this season and while matters are
enough now, the hot dry suirmer and
uccecding winter, presents anything but
an encouraging outlook for the boomers.
Sir. Everett says he had a tremendous
