How about John Tyler, Bro. 8uersaan? All the principal places in the pot'. office department have been filled and the work of improving the mail bervice should begin at once. It is particularly desirable that the services of incompetent men shall be dispensed with at the earliest possible moment. Gen. Goff says there is no Federal of fice that he would accept that he was elected governor of West Virginia, and nothing can swerve hiui from his purpose to obtain the place to which he is justly entitled. His cournge is commendable, but it is not at all likely that the demo critic legislature of his state will recog nize his claims under any circumstance?. When Mr. Blaine took possession of his office in the state department l.e seemed to miss something. Upon further investigation he found that the thing missed was the port ait of Daniel Webster that had once adorned the room. He found that it had been hustled off to an anteroom and the portrait of Grover Cleveland substituted in its place. Mr. ' Blaine immediately changed the pUces of the pictures, and Daniel once again frowns down upon the army of ofiice aeekers that now frequent the place win-re be held forth in old times in i.ll his glory. i HpsecsiLs&J. IF3riLi3s3 jtonr JLtlILej JHSslIo OinnJ - Tut alleged governor of Virginia, named Wilson, was going to whip an -ditor the other day. The editor had uade some disparaging remarks about the fraud that Wilson had perpetrated in giving a certificate of - election to a democratic candidate for congress, who had been beaten at the polls by his re publican opponent. Bystanders inter posed and the governor marched away breathing tbreateninga and slaughter against the man of the quill and scissors. Lincoln Journal. The Arizona legislature has made it a capital offense to '"make any assault up on a railroad train, car or locomotive," or to compel railroad employers to stop a train for an unlawful purpose. This was done with the determination to crush out train robberies, but it will apply to railroad strikes as well, and if there should be one there, he will be a bold man who attempts to interfere with the running of trains while the terribly se yere enactment referred to remains on the statute book. President Harrison has adopted the following which are said to be new rules for routine executive business: The cabinet will meet Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:30 p. ni. Senators - and representatives will be received every day from 10:00 to 12:00 a. m. Persons not members of congress haying business with the president will be received from 12:00 until 1:00 every day except Mon days, Cabinet days. Those who have n business, but call merely to pay their respects, will be received by the president in the east room at 1:00 p. m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. TnE new postmaster general is repre sented as saying to a correspondent of the Cincinnati Commercial Gazette: It will be the policy of the adminis tration to let postmasters serve out their terms, unless good aud sufficient reasons are given for their removal. Theorgani zitions that come here filing petitions for the appointment of other postmasters will not be considt red unless accompanied by some reason for the dismissal of the postmaster already in possession. This department appoints elaily a large num her of fourth-class postmasters. In every cisu the appointment has been made by reason of a resignation tendared, or be cause thf incumbent was shown to be in competent or inefficient. In all places whpre inefficiency or incompetency can not be shown, a postmaster will be al lowed to serve out bis term of four years. It would disarrange t!ie whole machine to make wholesale removals. Fine Job Work Cheap at The Herald.
