TEXAS TRIPLETS.
Three at a Birth and Two Indissol
ubly Joined-The Father a Triplet.
Sax Antonio, Tex., Jn. 18. Joe Coch
ran is an able-hoctiert full-blooded negro
of 30 years. He is on of triplets, and
both his brothers are living. Lately he
Ins "taken up with" a negress about 20
years old, also full blooded, whose name
in Anna Wat kins. On Wednesday Anna
iavc birth to three children, two boys and
a girl. They have taken kindly to the
bottle and are thriving. The girl baby
is very nearly the average eize, the buys
are each something smaller. These two
boys come into the world together for the
Mtliieiciit reason that from the shoulder
to the elbow they are closely joined.
They have two heads, two necks, four
forearms, two bodies and four .legs, but
are iuilissclubly joined for life. far
as they have afforded opportunity for
observation, they ar of two asperate
imml-i and tempermanta. The pains and
wants'of one do not effect the other.
Thry are exact duplicates in form and
feature. They have been visited by a
large number ot curiosity lovers, nir.le
and female, white and colored, the ladies
especially going into ecstasies over "the
little ducks." Tha twins appear to have
every chance of living.

Wisxu'kc, Max., Jan. 18. The govern
ment formerly resigned at 11 o'clock
Monday. The governor immediately
sent for Thomas Green way, leader of the
opposition, who repaired to the govern
ment house and was called upon to take
the reigns of government. There was a
tremendous crowd at the legislature that
afternoon, many spectators having to be
turned away. Th new members elected
last week were introduced amid great ap
plause. Harrison then stated that since
the opening of the house the members of
the government had seen Ct to place
their nsignations in the hands of the lieu
tenant governor and begged him to ac
cept sf them. They had also advised his
honor to send for Mr. Grcenway to form
a new government, and under tiiese cir
cumstances would move that the house
adjourn till Thursday afternoon, to giTo
the new leader time o form a cabinet.
Norquay and his supporters then retired
from the legislative chamber, singing
according" to a prearranged plan, "There's
One More River to Cross," amidst the
hoots of the liberals. No definite an
nouncement of the new cabinet is expect
ed to be made until the meeting on Thurs
day, when Green way will name the mem
bers chosen, and an adjournment will be
made for the re-election. The Norquay
men charge the opposition with wholesale
bribery in the recent flection contests.
Annexation for Peace.
, Halifax, N. S., Jan. 18 Jeffery Mc
Coll, member of the Provincial Legisla
ture for Pictou, in a speech to his consti
tuents to-day, advocated the immediate
abolition of local legislatures and the
annexation of Nova Scotia to the United
States. His idea is that with the North
American continent and the West Indies
under one government on this ride of the
Atlantic, and tha British government
over the United Kingdom, India, Austra
lasia and Africa, the Anglo-Saxon race
will maintain the peace of the world.
THE WEATHER.
A New Weather Prophet Who

For 1888.
One day last week the Hon. J. II.

It is proper to add that secretary Agi r
do.'s not claim the honor of this foreeas,
but it was made by a friend of h:.":.
Who is Ycur Bast Friend?
Your stom ich of course. Why I Be
cause if it is out of order you are one of
the most miserable creatures living. Give
it a fair chance and see if it is not ti e best
friend you have in the end. Don't smoki-
in the morning. Don J; drink in the
morning. If jo l must smoke and drink
wait until your stomach is tliiouh with
bretkfast. You can drink more and
smoke more in the evening and it will tell
on you less. If your food ferments and
does not digest right- if you are troubl
ed with Heartburn; Dizziness of the head,
coming up of tho food after eating, bil
iousness, indigestion, or any other trouble
of the stomach, you had best use Green's
August Flower, as no person can use it
without ;m nediate relief.

People commonly think of tho Ameer of
Afghanistan as n. inoror-e, cruel, covetous,
despotic savage, but nothing, according to
Messrs. O'Moara and Pyne, the only two Eng
lishmen who have seen him at home, could be
more unliko tho real man. His government
is no doubt severe; for only a rod of iron
could keep the Afghans under control.
Nevertheless, although the Ameer is un
doubtedly respected, and perhaps admired,
by tho mass of his people, the weight of his
hand is felt chieily by tho Sirdars. He is
essentially a friend of the common people.
What principally attracted the attentir.31 of
Messrs. O'Moara and Pyne was his enormous
capacity for work. Most trivial details come
to him for decision day after da 3'. He sits
plodding at work in durbar from 10 in the
morning till 12 at night. The durljar is open
to all, and the humblest approach him w ith
their complaints. As ha marched back re
cently from raghraau to Cabul, attended by
some 3.000 troops, many poor pcoplo alnug
the route did not hesitato to present tiv-if
petitions to him personally, ifo iitvariably
reeeived them, and after- g fencing at thon
scribbled t5omo words and handed thorn to an
officer near.
He seems to trust no one, but endeavors to
do everything himself. AlFairs the most in
significant from all parts of the country aro
roiKU-ted to him direct. " Thirty or forty re
ports," he remarked, "comu to mo about an
event. They all give diueront versions of it,
and they are all mostly lies. I examine and
compare them, and extract the true version
myself." Thero can- be no doubt that lie is
far ia advance of his people, n:id ho seems
conscious of this. The fu-orito observation
of his was, " When a s"i:: is in a shormy s.-a
and tho crew are tm-bn'ent a;id wiil not 1
won:, ta' captain must cali to Lis assistance- '
