THE SITUATION IN NEW YOB" Murat UalsleH - " V.-- ' - writes- from New to the Cincinnati Commercial Gazette as follows: 'Pretty clearly, the republican dis satibfaction docs not, when the men stand up iu a row to le counted, amount to much. There is more lite rary than political ability siinoug those who are seeking supernatural moral elevation. There are several exalted leaders, all ambitious and honorable men, and but few followers, and those chiefly young men of the fautastic type. They are appealed to as pure and spotless beings, and are anxious to show that they should be so classiQed. "The democratic result is a far more serious affair. Ke ports from the strong republican coun ties are that they will give increased majorities. Home of Blames mends two months ngo hesitated as to the pro priety of nominating him for the pres idency, because according to appear ances" the stata of New York was i against hint. TATTOOED MEN. From the Hartford Courant, Do not forget that it has Leen the habit of the democratic party to tattoo men who have had no sympathy with it, or have so conducted themselves iu politics or war as to be opposed by it. Abratftun Lincoln, in I860, was .tat tooed as "buffoon'." and after he be came President the democratic daubers paiuted hiui iu the most repuiaive col ors, and ia 1S64, when he was a candi date for re-election, mud was substitut ed tor paint by his defamers. As the .tattooed anen hitherto have aarveyed the slimy, work of slimy men and are to day honored, whether living or dead, to hall th rlctims- of. to-day., outlive the work of their defamers, and come to places where they can look down iu peaceful content upon the men aod purties whose attacks have been out rageous, and wbose constant cry against political opponents and brave soldiers for a quarter of a century has been, Crucity them 1 Crucify thetn ! HARD ON THE CONVERTS. The New York. Times continues to uejdore the selection of Win. II. Bar nuin as chairman of the democratic na tional coin tiiLtte. Too bad the Titue could not have been consulted ..in this matter. But the fact of having been kicked out of the republican party does not make the Times a democratic pa per, and therefore tb) matter of the chairmanship of the democratic com mittee is not considered any of its busi ness. If it is a luneral it is not the fu neral of the Times, and it should re strain its tears. Our esteemed but dis tressed contcmpoiary is likely to have much more than this to annoy ud make it unhappy before the campaign is over. We 1 see no symptoms that things are to be run to suit its aris tocratic English taste. Our disinter ested advice to the Times would be to get back iuto the republican party if it can. True, it had jno influence there, but as a democratic newspaper it wiil no only have no influence, but its sen sitive nerves are sure to be shocked by many aa unkiud reference. Ciucinnat ti Enquirer.
