At the ratitication me.eting tonight,

a strong one and could not be beaten.
Senator J. Don Cameron was waited

people would hear from him at the
proper time during the campaign.
FOREIC1N COMMENT.
London. June S . The Times says
"Blaii-e's nomination will be received
with satisfaction. Not only has he
teea the most popular candidate, but
the most conspicuous and respected
po!iiciaa in the lepublican party,
which doae itself honor by the nomina
tion of so well known and distinguisned
a man. 11 tne aemocrais couiu niaiie up
their mind to a definite, reasonable
free trade policy tl.ey ceitainly would
secure nu re sympathy cu this side of
the Atlantic than hitherto. Meantime
we congratulate the republic on the
choice or a camo-i t o euiiuentiy
suited m liiaine to repieeiit and up
hold the dignity of th United Stares."
Uudtr the heading of A Benu-us-
Qeld lhyoiid the Sea,' it.e IMl G7.eite
says: "Blaiob's utini.Jii:ion id the r.icst
notable cleat for England since Lic-
colo was assassinated. v herever
Blaine can oust the British from the
position they hold ou the American
continent he will endeavor to replace
English influence and trade by Ameri
can. His menacing intimation of his
disregard for the Claytou-Bulrrer trea
ty is an evil augury for the future rela
tions of England and America. Ilis
intervention in Peru is most ominou3
when he declared lie disliked England
to wiu commercial triumphs in a field
belorgiug to Americ... England will
watch with extreme solicitude the
progress of the campaign."

Northwestern railroads burned to the
grouad. It is supposed to bo the work
au iactcdiary, as when tho alarm was
given the lire was bursting from the

worse is that the two latter roads havo
no engine here to send out with trains

at the other eud, aud the Des Moines

these were run out, but three cabs were
