Pittsburg, Oct. 20. There were uo
important developments today in the
railroad war at Ilock Point, Pennsyl
vania, between the Pittsburg, Youngs
town nnd Chicago railroad and Penn
sylvania company. Nothing has been
lone by either Bide since Monday. Su
perintendent Starr, of the Pennsylvania
company stated touignt i!i:-.t if tLey

sylvania company did not propose to

ZOItA BURNS.
Lincoln, 111,. Oct 2(5. The first wit
ness before the coroner's jury in the
Zoru Burn's case this morning, was
Kate Madden. She testified that as she
was going to church. Sunday euveuing
about seven o'clock, she saw a woman
walking south ou the Chicago & Alton
railway. At the south end ot Carpen
ter's elevator she turned" aside and the
last the witness saw of her, was as she
turned to go into the elevator. The
woman was dressed in dark clothes
Witness did not notice whether she had
a hat on with .white plume or not
didn't believe she could have distin
guished a white plume at that hour.
W. J. Jaiiisjn, proprietor of the ho
til where Zora stopped, teststied that
.-he took supper about 0:30 and went
out soon after, having put on a dai k
thesf, and remained cut a half or three-
quarters of an hour. Did not know
when she left the family of M. J. Law-
ler. Saw the woman on the street
about 9 o'clock Sunday night. As he
passed she stepped behind a pile of
lumber. When he asked her what she
was doing, she laughed hysterically
and said she was attending to her own
business.
Lincoln, 111., Oct. 20. The mysteri
ous Airs. Carpenter, of Decatur, arrived
this morning. She stated that she came
j here ou an important errand connected
with the Zora Burns murder, but would
not tell what, She said that since her
return lo D.rcatur from this place,
where shn had given testpuiouy damag
ing to Carpenter, she h:ul been ap
proached by sevtral dilicrent persons
who tiied io lutiueni:? her. She con
tradicted her previous te.vimouy, and
intimated that i- would be rewarded
lor doing so. She refused all offers,
but claims to know their names. In
corroboration of the testimony in re gard
to Carpenter's visit to Peoria with
Zora, on August 14 or 15, she says that
Zora left her house in Decatur, Augusr
13, and returned August 20. When she
left Zora remarked of her lack of funds,
but she had $20 oil her return.
J. V. Cunningham, deputy Sheriif,
showed the hotel register ol the Peoria
house for the mouth of August. The
entry of "O. A. Carpenter and daugh
ter, Lincoln, 111.," on August 14, was
scrutinized by the jury. The rooms
which they occupied were ou the same
side ot the hall and adjoining. To
hair pins found iu Carpenter's carriage
were shown, aud it was found that one
of the pins wits exactly like one found
in the dead girl's pocket.
Nelly Slieiu, chambemaid at the
Peoria House, was shown a photograph
of Zora and said that she resembled
the girl who was at the Peoria House
about August 14. She said that lhe
lady al the Peoria House was not tall
and stout us Carpenter's g'nla are. The
jury adjourned till Monday.
