The manner iu wmcti Mr. Henry

-her.cveningt upon the occasion of his
lecture iu that city, seems to have ex
cited the admiration of the chivalry of
that section. - The following from the
Atalanta (Gav Constitution, is an evi
dence that Mr. Beecher had courage
enough to employ very plain and em
phatic language towards bis traducer,
which under ordinary circumstances in
that section, would require the inter

now the Herald' adds by way of en
couragement to the managers of tlio
democratic machine, go ahead, gentle
men! the old gentleman will keep you
busy and state several more interest
ing matters for you to ponder over be
fore he gets through with you. Mr.

man of sense in this community, both
democratic and republican will say the.

your ticket.
It U buld that iluu. Ja.ne M, Pat
terson has been through tho county
trying to rally hia democratic admirers
to the support of Mr. dishing for treas
urer of this county. If some lepubli
can banker of the county would otart
ou a blurring lour with Jud-e Newell,
What a democratic howl it Wuuid rai.se.
At the daiue time the Herald has no
serious oi-jectiuus to the Hon. James
v itiMg hM po'iucjil associates on this
Ulissiou. We have coutideuce enough
ia the good judgmeut-of our Cass coun
ty farmers to believe they need no ad
vice upon this treasurer question and
that Mr. Patterson will find it a task
beyond his persuash e powers to con
viuce even his democra tic followers
that Judge Newell is one of the "ras
cals that must go.
Mr. Patterson appealed to aud re
ceived the support of mauy republicans
when he was a candidate for re-election
to the office of county treasurer, for
their suffrages on the ground that he
had performed the duties of that ofll :e
in an acceptable and cittiiinble man
ner, lnote appeals wuich he matio to
republicans, for Ins re-election to this
identical office, are now rising up to
confuse him when he Is making his
rounds throughout the county, :ukhg
the tame men to turn out of thi-s Qi.ce
a better treasurer and a better officer
than ever James M. Pattersou was;
and in way lug this much, as emphatic
ally as we do, we are not seeking to de
tract one lota from the rtcoicl or good
reputation with which Mr. Patterson
left the county treasurer's office.
llepuoiicans, and we have many of
them in Cass county, who listened to
James il Patterson's appeals for their
support a few years g , will make a
uote of his consi.iteui action now and
piu it n iheir slcevis, in order that in
the luiuie they may never forget it.
Tiiekh: are inu'uy ludependeut voters
in Cass county who lightly wear the
yoKe wf party; who care little tor the
sujej of auy political party; their aini
being, g-reraliy, to ttelect the best men
a id , iO note the general welfare by so
doifg.

tion, were by profession, aad affiliation
r,-puiiicaus; ye'., they threw aside tne
ies of party ou that occasion for whu
t iey professed and considered the good
ot the. whole community. Today the.-e
s oik- vo ers are bung importuned by
tho leaders of the democratic party to
r.v fan ihis rule, and that at a lime
when members of their owu pa ty,
g od, trustwtirthy, republican otlcials,
are as&iug ior endorsement, just as
Mr, Patterson did four years ago. The
Herald is gratified to know after
care.ul euquiry, that invariably, thu
cl iss of voters are consistently standing
by their .irofessious oT four years ago.
and are goiug to sustain the nominees
of the republican ticket, and that in
addition to this, mauy independent
democrats are iuteuding to vote for
"the best men" whom they this year
find upon the republican ticket. Ev-
e.y argument worthy of a momeu.'s
c n -doia i n is in favor of he eleciion
of !e'Sr. Jennings Newell, Eikenbary
an I t'te wnoie republican ticket.
T i r aso is for tue election of this
ticket are cogent reasons that appeal to
the honest judgment of our people.
The republican ticket of Cass county is
in he interest of the people, and the
tight is emphatically their tight. It is
a question of in j trities, and let those
majorities be emphatic aud over
whelming.
