of city improvements; the most notable
being the building of the Fifth street
culvert and the grading, bridging and
opening ol Main strtet west to the
city limits. Street commissioner Mc-
Cann has done much good work in
other parts of the city and the streets
and walks were never iu better condi
tion for the winter months. There yet
remains on the fifth blreet work, the
tilling at the new culvert which should
be done at once.
The republican nominees for the

one, and expect an election without
work. There is going to be a lively
opposition this fall, and it will not be
centered , ou two or th:ce men, but on
