THE COREAK AMBASSADORS.
Washington, September 15. The
Corean ambassadors arrived from Chi
cago and were at once driven to the
Arlington hotel. Nothing was deter
mined as to the future movements, but
they will probably remain here only a
few days, and then go to New York,
and possibly to Boston, returning here
when the President Is in the city.
Commissioner English received the
following telegram from Lieutenant
Commander Welsh, at Pensacola: "I,
on the 13th inst., issued to the destitute
about 1,850 rations, which I considered
was all I could do under orders of the
department. I was reliably informed
that a deposit of four thousand dollars
is now in the bank at Pensacola, sub
ject to the reserve relief committee,
and last night I informed the treasurer
thereof. I thought I had done all I
could at present nnder any orders. No
new cases and no new deaths among
the naval officers."

The postoffice department today be
gan the distribution of two cent stamps
and the requisition upon contractors

of value ever isued in one day. The
orders were for 37,879,830 postage
stamps, 9,131,050 stamped envelopes,
most of them being of the two cent
denomination, and 5,983.000 postal
cards. The aggregate value of the arti
cles ordered was $950,000.

Judge Robertson, of Louisiana, filed
with John B. Knox, comptroller of the
currency, a formal complaint, setting

company in advertisements which have
appeared in various journals through
out the country. Mr. Stever says it is
the intention of his clients to test the
question whether or not a national bank
can lawfully go into the lottery busi

Cause, disobedience of orders.
AN AGREEMENT REACHED.
Chicago, Sept. 15. A conference be
tween the committee of strikers and
proprietors of the steel rail mills at'
South Chicago, owned by the North
Chicago Rolling Mill company, was
hfld this afternoon. The men presen
ted a basis for the resumption of work,
and after a long discussion an agree
ment was reached to last the remain
der of the year. The mills resume
work a week from Monday night, giv
mg employment to about 3,000 men.
CUTTING ON RATES.
Chicago, Sept. 15. In accordance
with the announcement made in these
dispatches last night the Pan Handle
inaugurated a cut rate of $6 to Louis
ville this morning, the regular rate be
ing- $9. This was at once met by the
