Memory's Offering. 1 Mr. Allan Beeson received the par ticulars this morning of the death of a sister in Ohio ami of a brother iu Gunnison, Colorado. Their death oc curred only three days apart, anil the news as received by Mr. Beeson this morning are very sad indeed. Laura Ilethei ington, wife of Samuel Iletheringtoti, and daughter of John and Marv Beeson. died June 21. lb;J, aged !il years, months, and 24 days. She was next to the youngest of a family fifteen brothers a.-.d sisters, and had always enjoyed remarkably good health until about the lir.it of Decern bcr last, when hhe contracted a deep cold which settled into chionic pneu monia in spite of the lirst efforts of her medical attendants. It noon became apparent to her friends and attendants that the "fell destroyer," consumption, had begun iis fatal work, and that she was following rapidly in the foot-steps of some of h r brothers and bistcis who bad fallen victims to the same disease. The co'ii e of her sickness was rapid and marked by great sum-ring, winch she bore with true Christian fortitude. When it became evident that a fatal termination must be the it Milt, her daily wish was for the final relief. The deceased was one of the kindest of neighbors and the truest of friends. But few people eer took so much in terest in relieving the wants of the poi r or musing the sick. The night was never too cold or inclement for Laura to go fourth on her missions of mercy among the sick and alllicted. She was a dear lover of children and of pets of the inferior animals. She was continu ally surrounded by her flowers and birds, ami all seemed to know her voice and loved to uestle close by her. fShe was opposed to all ostentation and show, especially in the matter of re ligion. She was hardly laid to rest until word was received of the death of her brother, Benjamin Beeson, of Gunnison, Colorado. lie was aged about forty-five to seven years, and at the time of his death was engaged in mining in the Rocky Mountains. He served during the late war, and was a most gallant soldier; first as a sergeant in the 27th Regt. O. V. L, and subsequently as captain of a company U. S. colored infantry. To the writer of this he was intimately known as one of nature's noblemen. He loved frontier life, and nearly ever since the close of.the war has been liv ing, with his faithful wife, on the ex- j treine border of civilization; first in j Kansas, and for the last five years at u ining camps far out in the Iloeky ! Mountains. With his energy, keen in tcllect, and indomitable perseverance, there is no doubt, could his life, have oeeu spareu a iew years longer, ui.u jus i labors would have-been crowned with a golden harvest. His death was caused by pneumonia, on the 15th day of June, 1883, just six days before that of his sister. He was a son-in law of our neighbor, "Eddie" Thorn burg. The blow was a severe one to the surviving brothers and sisters, the two deaths coming so closely the one upon the other. They, with the devoted wife and faithful husband, have the sympa thy of a large circle of sincere friends. New Vienna (Ohio) Record. TERSONALS. "Kansas City boys at college ?o not figure very largely on the ball nines or iu the college crews, but they seem to have pursued their studies in the good, old-fashioned orthodox way. Mr. C. V. Hanna only stopped, taking prizes in his class (Yale '85), because there were no more to win. Kansas City may well be proud of her college boys." The above items were clipped from the Kansas City Times of June 30th, and will be read by the old citizens with much interest." Mr. Ilanna was a former respected Phittsmouth citizen, and the young man who carried eff so many honors was born in Plattsmouth. Mr. Taylor is a gentleman ot the strictest integrity and unblemished character, which, couph tl with good energy, has gained for him the success he has secured; his I last venture being the embarking in ! business for himself, having formed a I copartnership with P. C. Ileinbeangh of Omaha in the retail hardware busi ness, the iinu being Ileinbeangh & Tay lor, and one of tlie strongest in that city. John W. Jennings, adjutant in charge of the district re-union at Weeping Water, moves to the front this evening, when special a.a i general order No. 1 will be issued. We guarantee to our Wi eping Water friends and the re union a prompt, energetic otlicer in the person of Col. JenuioRS. Hon. David McCuij is commander of the re-uniou, and is already on the grountt, and we can assure our boys, and our people generally, most of whom aie going to Weeping Water to-morrow and on the 4th. that thev will be received and entertained in a royal manner by the geutlemen iu charge of the district re union. Tlie Ii. & M. band in full uniform will attend the O. A. It. reunion at Denver, leaving here the 17th or 18th of July. They will go under the aus pices of the G A. It. of Nebraska, and will be furnished transportation and en tertainment while there. The boys now have a fine set of instruments handsome uniforms, and can master almost any kind of music placed before them. They take a back seat for no one on band music, and we hereby no tify the people of Denver, and the G. A. II. that they are gentlemen, and will give then some tine music. We are sorry for the Omaha Hcra'd a id the people of Weeping Water that such an untruthful, and not only untruthful, but malicious correspondent resides here. So far as the re-uniou is concern ed, the whole statemeut in the corres pondence is wickedly false. Oen. Mandcrson will be here, and will be the guest of A. A. Miller. Active preparations are being made to make a grand success of the reunion and celebration. Our citizens have con tributed liberally, and the withdrawal of the reunion has not been thought of. We have assurances that the people of this county are friendly to the reunion and will generally attend it. Plaits mouth very generouslv refused to have a general celebration in order that her citizens could attend the reunion and celebration at this place. What motive the IIekald's correspondent had iu en deavoring to create the impression abroad that the reunion and celebra tion would be a failure is best known to himself. We can assure people abroad that the celebration will be a grand one, and, as far as possible, everything will be done for the comfoit and convenience of all Put no faith in what enemies of the celebration may s iy, but come and you will be heartily welcomed, lhc 100 members ot Post 61, and the Sous ot Veterans, are well aware who the correspondent is ('ass County Eagle.
