CATTLE CONVENTION.
Syracuse, Marcli 21. The annual
meeting of the H .lsteiu breeders' asso
ciation ot America was t!i 1 irgest and

ent, representing Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michi
gan, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vir
ginia, New Jersey, New York and the
New England states. The report of
the secretary showed an increase of
2,007 animals in registry during the
year, carrying tLe number of regis
tered animals to 5,003. Liberal appro
priations for premiums for beef and
butter, to be awarded at the fat stock
shows in Chicago and Kansas City and
at the national fair for dairy products,
were made. The board and officers
were re-elected.

New York, March 21. The inquest
in the case of William II. Haverstick,
shot Monday evening by George W.
Conkling, Jr.. was resumed today.
Several witnesses were examined, but
no new tacts elicited. Mrs. Uhler, sis
ter of Coukling. is still in the hospital
suffering from nervous prostration
and unable to be present as a witness
today. It is expected she will recover
sufficient tomorrow to be present and
the iuquesl was adjourned until then.
Mrs. Uhler obtained permission from
the coroner to look at the body and
drove to the undertaker's accompanied
by a physiciau and undertaker. The
brother of the dead man arrived today
and started this evening with the body
for Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Chicago, March .21. Instructions
have been forwarded to the command
er of the department of Dakota, for
the removal of bitting Bull and his
immediate followers, now under mili
tary surveilance at Fort Kandali, to
Standing Mock agency, where the other
Sioux reservation Indians are sta
tioned. The savages will leave Kan
dali under a guard April 15th. Pro
visions will be provided for the
Indians until they have an opportunity
to provide for themselves. This is in
accordance with the request of Siitiug
Bull to become a reservation Indian
which the chieftain has hitherto de
clared that he never would. He was
taken to Fort Kandali early last fall
together with a number of warlike
young bucks, and thus separated from
the others of his band, the Uncapapaa,
owing to tbe ugly demeanor of himself
and followers. -It Is expected he will
be given an opportunity-to pre ride tor

brothers, two of the Little Rock A Fort
Smith train robbers, now jailed here,con
fetised to their crime. George Johnson
said the party was organized at Mrs
Heimfl', but the plan was out exactly
completed there. It wan understood that
the Little Hock & Ft. Smith train was to
be captured and robbed. They adjourn
ed to meet at Mulberry, where the plan
of operations was formed in the wood
near town. The intention was not to
kill any one except in clf-dcfence,and to
avoid bloodshed un Ic-b ab61utely ncces
sary. The shooting was done under ex
citement and was entirely unnecessary
Jim Ilerndon, who was captured this
morning near Huntsville, Madison coun
ty, lired the hot that killed Conductor
Cain. The original plan was to capture
Cain and rob the passengers. George
Johnson is an cx-federal soldier, and is
now drawing a govern meat petition.

LECHEROUS LEPERS.
Honolulu, March 21. The Commer
cial Advertiser, regarding the reports of
the general spread of leprosy in Hawaii,
says: Six of the most important dis
tricts, comprising an area of 300 uquare
miles of the most densely populated por
tion of the kingdom, with 10,000 inhabi
tants, has been thoroughly searched by
the board of health. The result was
that twenty-eight native and no foreig n
lepers were found. Ten foreign lepers
were found at the settlement of Molk&i,
most of whom contracted the disease by
licentiousness.
THE QUEEN'S CONDITION.
London, March 21. The injuries re
ceived by Queen Victoria, Saturday, by
slipping on the stair, are more serious
than at Orst supposed. On returning
trom a ride she was unable to leave ber
carriage,and bad to be carried by attend
ants. It is believed she will4be confined
to her room some time. At best, grave
fears are entertaiued,owiug to the queen's
age and feeble health. Great crowds
