STRIKING MINERS.
Halifax, March 20. A telegram
from Lingen, Cape Breton, says since
January the Lingen miners, after a
protracted strike, have been operated
by non-union men. Yesterday the
union miners came here and badly
kicked the manager, Enge, blacksmith
and others, visited houses, broke in
doors and dragged women out. Five
men were brutally beaten. The man
ager telegraphed to Sidney for constables.

and the president has no power to
