j Tried To Save His Si,ter
A bright-eyed, black-ha 1 red boy
about sixteen years of ae has been
seen about the federal building- for
the past few days waiting to be
called before the grand jury. He
attracted more than ordinary at
tention on account of his youth
and generally intelligent appear
ancf. Well directed questions drew the
boy's ttory from him and he tin
folded a tale in simple language
which shows him to be a lad of
good hard sense ?nd mat i" e ideas.
His name is Harr3' Doxie ami he
has Jived at Callaway.whe' e his lath
eraml mother kept a ho1, the o ?'y
other member of the family being;
a sister of the bo v. aged about I
twelve years.
Among the boa "des w;:s a man
who had not been in the house
long before he began to show more
attention to the rather handsome
landlady than was necessaiy or
even proper. The husband pro
tested against such proceedings,
but without effect, ami the itnrigce
continued.
Finally the husband became dis
gusted and left home, going to
some point in Kansas, and about
the same time the boarder who had
been the cause of all thetrouble went I
to Laramie where he started a sa
loon.
Mrs. Doxie remained in Callawa3"
'with her two children and her
mother. In a short time a letter
arrived from Laramie, written by
the absent lover to Mrs. Doxie, ask-
I 'brifi'r I
the little girl with her. "
Harry intercepted the letter, hi'a

then decided to keep it from his
mother, but it was found l3'
his grandmother who upheld her
daughter in her course and there
upon the old woman lodged a com
plaint against the boy, charging
him with interfering with the
mails.
The boy was arrested and brought
before 'die present grand jur3' for
hearing. He told his story
in a simple, straightforward way,
which excited the most livel3' sym
pathy in the minds of the grand
jury. He. said he kept the letter

'ie did not want the little girl to be
