President F. W. Taylor of Omul a was in the chair and Secretary' G. J. Car penter of Fairbury was there with a sten ographer. CQ.de France of Omaha, Who will reproduce the paper talks and discussions for incorporation into ihe annual report. President Taylor deliv ered his anuual address, giving an en Waging report of the condition and prospects of the society in every way. After discussion the report was referred to a committee comprising E. F. Steven?, C. W. Gurney and It. N. Day. Equally agreeable reports were read from the secretary and treasurer, the latter being especially gratifying, as it shows upwards of $3,000 in the ireasury. These reports were relerred to a commit tee comprising D. U. Reed, G. W. Alex ander and L C. Cnapin. Among the visitors at the afternoon session was Hon T. T. Lyon cf South Ilaven, Mich., nomologist in the nat'on- agricultural department and president of the Michigan Horticultural Society, w Marlatto of Manhattan, Kas., wa- al-o Dresent and was elected to honorary JL membership. At the eyening session Clyde Barnard read a satisfactory paper upon the ques tion, "Can We Raie Pears in Nebraska?'' which was discussed with a good deal of vi-or. W. R. Harris started h vigorou discussion of the different varieties of nnU hv his naner on "Will the Ben J Davis Continue to be the Leading Mar Utet Apple?" There appeared to be con JSderahle difference of opinion on that noint, and th,; discussion developed th fact that the Ben Davis sells more read ily than any other variety, even thoug Inforinr to some of them. The sentiment seemed to be that the Ben Davis was the best payinir apple to the producer, though the Jonathan, Winesap and one or two other varieties had their friends W. J. Hesser discussed "The Six Best Apples for Market," and Hiram Craig "The Six Best Apples for Family Use." The discussion of these opinions also brought out a well marked difference of experience." Cass County Funds. County Treasurer Cushing, through rtia aKlo on rl nrcnmodatioe deputy, Mr. Fred Herman, made a very clear nnd succim-tlstatement of the county's finan ces, which we printed in yesterday's Herald. Very few counties in the tate can ehow so flattering a financial condition as old Cass. From a brief elance at the statement we notice that Cass county has paid into the state treasury during the last six months, the urn of $16 000, as state taxes. We find but one county fund overdrawn (the bridge fund), while almost every other r.f.itin a. healthv balance. Kotliing is better adapted lor such emergencies than Ayer's Clierry Tcctoral. It soothes the inflamed nieimaane, promotes expectoration, relieves couching, aud induces sleep. The prompt use of this medicine has saved innumerable lives, both of young and old. " One of my children had croup. The case was attended by our physician, and was sup posed to be well under control. One night 1 was startled by the child's hard breathing, and ou going to it found it Strangling. It had nearly ceased to breathe. Realizing that the child's alarming condition had be come possible in spite of the medicine it had taken, I reasoned that such remedies would be of no avail. Having a part of a bottle of Aver's Cherry Pectoral in the house, I gave the child three doses, at short intervals, and anxiously waited results. From the rnent the Fectoral was given, the child's breathing crew easier, and in a Short time it was sleep in" quietly and breathing naturally.
