J'itman, who lias been a great sufferer for some four weeks, terminating in his death on Monday Aug. the first. The funeral was largely attended and was conducted by ISev. Surface of the U. li. Church. In passing from the Mt. Pleas ant church to the cemetery, there happen cd a little accident that came near being serious. After crossing the bridge just north of the cemetery, on ascending the hill, the team of Mr. Andrew Pitman (father of the deceased) stopped and hacked down hill, causing Eli j'itman to turn his team out of the way onto the hank, thereby upsetting his spring wagon with the inmates. The persona in Andrew Pitman's huggy were also thrown out, but fortunately no one was hurt. De ceased leaves a wife and two children to mourn for the departed. But he died not as one having no hope, having been converted during the early part of his sickness. Two brothers of deceased from the western part of the state were home w ith tin; aillicted before his decease. The general health in this connnnnity is good. We had a half inch rain fall here on Thursday night. The l'eckner JJros. have started their thresher and are doing good work. Miss Lizzie Current, of Elmwood, is visiting in our community. The Pall Mall Gazette publishes a new home rule scheme purporting to have been accepted by the liberal leaders. This scheme gives Ireland u national legisla ture and an executive. There will be no separation. The Ulstei Irish members will continue to sit in the imperial parlia ment in their present numbers. The powers of the Irish parliament will be delegated, matters to bo controlled in Dublin, being clearly defined and also subject to revision by the imperial par liament. The land question will be left to the Irish parliament- It is doubtful whether the statement is ollicial. The statement is valuable, however, as indi cating the line of the amended policy of Morley, Trevelyan, and Harcourt, which is probably assented to by Gladstone anel satisfactory to the liberals generally.
