ing Machine may be of some inter st.

to watch closely: "Yesterday we called
upon Mr. C. E. Tilddes, invenlor of the
Tibbies sewing machine, and found
quite a number of gent leinen rresei.t.
including E. II. Conger, It. K. Miller,
Jerome llollingswoi th, II. "E. Teach
out, A. W. Xylor, E. W. Smith and
II. C. Ens iiinger. and others, all of
whom are stockholders in the Hawk
eye M.iclwi.e Company, with priuciptl
place of business at Burlington, Iowaf
which company owns the Tibbies sew
ing machine, and hope soon to organize
a company to manufacture the ma
chines, and it would be a good com
pany for Des Moines to secure, as it
would bring thousands of dollars into
business men's pockets. Mr. Tibbies
is now on his way east to contract for
the manufacture of machines, and
hopes to have them on the market in
time for the spring tiade. The special
points claimed for this machine are:
It is the only machine that feeds the
work to or from the operator at will,
without any change in the .machinery ;
it has the le ist machinery of miy ma
chine ni:idc, and therefore runs the
lightest; every beat ing, joint and place
of friction, from the loot pedal to the
head ot the mac.dhe, is provided with
the Tibbies adjustable joint aad
sleeves, and tliis device will take up
all lost motion aud leave the shafts in
the same position as when new for
fifty years' ordinary wear; it has posi
ticely self-setting needle, no holes t
thread in shuttle or machine; it has
independent take-up; is entirely new;
is not similar to other machines in
mechanism or appcurat.ee, and is beau
tiful in design and appearance. This
machine has caused a great commutiou
in sewing machine circles, and we
think that Tibbies sewing machine
will soon take the lead.

Opium in Cigars and the Danger it
Leads to.
Having ascertained that a number
of cigar deajers in I'lattstnouth nrc
selling opiated cigars, in order to con
vince myself of the truthfulness of
tli same, and to warn the puLlic
aKinst the evil results that come from
such cigars, I had a disinterested party,
send to Prof. Aughey, on the- 20th of
May- for analysis, three samples of the
supposed opiated cigars made in New
York, together with four different
biands of my own make. Prof. -Aughey
'a report on the analysis shows that
