church will be celebrated on Saturday

Matt Simmerman, the horse thief
and accomplice of Dick Belmont in
the murder of Sheriff Jack Woods and
oiuers at iuinuen in tins state, was
tried last week, the jury finding him
guilty of murder in the first degree.
and Judge Gaslin sentenced him to
be hanged by the neck until dead on
the 21st dav of next April. He will
remain in the penitentiary in Lincoln
until the day of execution.
Christmas Serf ices at the Eptneopal
Chnrch.
On Sunday evening next instead of
the regular service in St. Luke's, this
city, there will be a children's carol
service. The church will be deco
rated for the occasion and illuminated
and a very pleasant time will be the
service.
On Christmas morning at a. m.
there will be regular church service,
the church will be illuminated and the
services conducted by the rector. All

Quarrying in W. II. 13. Stout's stone
quarry is at present suspended. The
steam shovel is yet at work preparing
for the quarrymea in warmer weather.
The people are becoming aware of
the proficiency of Dr. Duff, who came
here about six months ago, and now is
riding night and day.
J. II. "Worley went to Hatlsmouth
last Saturday to replenish the County
treasury.
Mr. S. Dewey, formerly of Cedar
Creek but now of Weeping Water,
gave bis old home a call on Sunday.
As Mr. Tom Williams was calling
on his lady friend at Mr. Geo. Say lea
Sunday night, his team broke away
and Tom's pleasure was turned into
anguish. He borrowed a horse) and
overtook his team south of here, and
the next morning borrowed II, Inhel
der's buggy to take his friend to where
she is teaching school. Tom came,
saw, and at last conquered.
Mrs. Smalley did not go ou her in
