Nkhuabka amy get as ninny as eight con
gressmen under tho new apportionment soon
to lo made. After the Inst cetiNus tho mem
bership of tho houMiof representatives was
made !W5. The admission of now states lms
increased it to 333. If it lw increased to IKK)
this state may get eight. If the present mem
bership (U$J) be maintained it will give it
population of about UVS.OOO to each congrw
slonal district, which will entitle Nebraska to
six members, iwisibly seven. Tho llrst step
to be taken by congress in making n ronppor
tionuieut is to decide on the number of mem
bers of the lower house, and some of the lit
publicans are already moving In that direc
tion. The Republican of Nebraska have adopt
ed a miserable plan In Jhe holding of their
state conventions. Thoy are called to meet
at eight In the evening and always take up
the larger part' of the night, This week's
convention lasted until nine o'clock tho next
morning. Thero were 810 delegates and
about as many spectaters. Think of the
wretched feelings of hundreds of these men
after n night In that hot, crowded room,
tilled with the odeis and gasses thrown on by
ItMX) bodies. At times two hundred of the
delegates were absent, but the full vote was
recorded. The Couuieu overheard two men
discussing how they had divided up the
whole ten votes in their delegation on sue
cslve ballot. In some states tho conveu
tlous meet at ten iu the morning, form a
temporary organization and adjourn until
nfternwon to give their committees time to
work and roort. This arrangement gives
the convention the afternoon for its work,
ami if, necessary the early evening can also
be used.
Vuluaiutv'b seal is placed on the woman
who wears her diamond ring outside her
glove, a ILlng very few women of even the
tlnshlet sort are ever guilty of, yet even this
is hardly as bad as a tie w fashion seen once or
twice of late, of embroidering the backs of
evening glove with Jewels. Tho embroider
ed glove has never lieen very popular. Tho
truth is that, although the glove itself is
pretty enough when adorned with needle
work, it is not becoming to the hand when
the glove is worn so close as is the fashion to
day. Iu past ages, when the glove was worn
loose, tho embroidery on the back was ex
tremely becomlug. But this new method of
embroidering with Jewols seems to ha ve
caught the fancy of certain oUentatious peo
ple who find It a new method of displaying
their riches. Of course, oven the wealthiest
women cannot nlTord lo have more than ohm
pair of gloves adorned In this fashion. Bo
that the method Is to have the diamonds
ktrung on eight short lengths of silk, and
these are stltcho.1 on each new pair of gloves
as they are required. The diamonds, of
course," are very small, but attract a great
deal of attention as tho weurer mov us no
hand with the waving of her fan, and the
tour glittering lines down the back of ha .
glove flash back the Ugh).
