Harold Harris Mr. and Mrs Roy Ininnway. former residents of Ewing, re cently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a re ception at the (kxxl Samaritan Village recreation hall at Hast ings, where th<*y now reside. Hosts were their sons and daughters-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Roticrt Dunaway. Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dunaway of Council Bluffs. Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dunaway of San I»renzo, Calif, and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Winter Moael "i Neiigh. The most «>{ their twenty grandchildren were present and all of their six great grandchildren were at the party Those who assisted with the re ception were Miss Mona Mosel who attended the guest txx>k. and Misses Bonnie and Linda Dun away who displayed the gifts. They are granddaughters of the lionorcd couple. The sons and daughter greeted the guests at the door. The table was attended by Mrs. I/ywell Jensen of Neiigh and Mrs. Keith Bartak of Ewing, grand daughu rs of the couple and Mrs. Paul Magnuson. The serving fea tured an anniversary cake. The family was entertained at dinner preceding the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dunaway, who were married in Rockford, III in 1913 lived in Nebraska and Wisconsin most of their lives. They made their home in Hast ings during World War II then went to Ewing and later return ed here when they became resi dents of the Village. Mr. Dun away is employed by the Carmi chael-James Construction Co. Mrs. Anita Lee left Thursday for Denver, Colo, where she will visit at the home of relatives be fore leaving for Tacoma, Wash, where she will make her home. Her son, Virtus, left several days ago for their new location. He was a memt*er of the1 graduating class of 1963 from the Ewing high school. Mr. and Mrs. Merwin Butler w’ho have bcien guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Good and other rel atives and friends in Ewing for the past few weeks left Saturday to return to their home in Sedro Woolley, Wash. They planned to visit friends in Wyoming on their * way. -Mx»s. Allen Pollock returned home Tuesday from Omaha where she has spent the past week with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Eon Brion accom panied by her sister, Teena Hobbs, who had been their guest for the week, were weekend guests at the parental homes of Mr. and Mrs. William Hobbs and Mr. and Mrs R. 9. Brion. 'Biey returned to Lincoln Monday ac companied by her brother, Duke Hobbs. Mr and Mrs. William Hobbs were hosts for a birthday supper June 2nd in honor of the birthday of her father, John Schiffbauer sr. Other guests were Mrs. Schiff l>auer sr. and Mr. and Mrs. John Schiffbauer jr. and family, all of Norfolk. Mrs. Lavinia Kobold of Sioux City, la. is a guest this w'eek at the home of Mi's. Anna Miller and other relatives in the Ewing community. Lulu Belle Jacobsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jacob sen of Intercession City, Fla. and Rev. M. E. Coombs, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Coombs of Colo rado, w’ere married Saturday, June 1 at the Morrison Memorial church at Intercession City. The 10:30 a m. ceremony was per formed by Rev. Blowers, a Free Methodist minister, a friend of the family, assisted by the pastor of the church. Attendants for the couple were Miss Laura Jeane Jacobsen, sis ter of the bride and Mr. Lemar Campbell, friend of the couple. A reception was held at the Christian College Hall following the ceremony. After a wedding trip to West Palm Beach, Fla., the young couple will make their home at Intercession City. Mrs. Alta Meyers went to Oak dale Sunday to spend a few days with her son, Richard Meyers, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Will Walter ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Walter and family and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walter of Clearwater, to Chambers recently one Sunday to call at the home of his sis ter and brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dewey. Mrs. S. M. Burtwistle and her mother, Mrs. J. L. Pruden, went to Omaha Friday where they at tended the graduation exercises at the South High school. Miss Linda Kay Cooper, niece of Mrs. Pruden was a member of the class of five hundred students who completed the high school course. They were overnight guests at the home of Linda Kay's parents. Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Noffke en tertained the following guests at dinner at their home Sunday, his parents. Oakland Calif., was a guest of Mrs. Ker mit Jefferies, Ewing, and Mrs Leona Shoemaker, O'Neill, for Rosemary Rotherham celebrat ed her May 29 birthday anniver sary on Saturday. June 1st. with a party from 2 to 5 p.m. when she had as her guests at her home, eight schoolmates. Dennis Bergstrom, Mark Anderson, Bev erly Snyder. Carol Thramer. Bev erly Funk. Mary Miller. Debrs Alexander and Vonnie Schroeder Out-of-door games provided amusement for the afternoon ai ter which Rosemary opened the gifts presented to her on her sixth birthday anniversary. Lunch was served by her mother, Mrs. Jer ry Rotherham, included a birth day cake. Tuesday evening another birth day party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rother ham to celebrate the fifth birth day of their daughter, Carol. Eve ning and luncheon guests were Mr. and Mrs Vincent Rotherham and family, Niobrara, Kent Ro therham and two children and Mrs Charles Rath from Colora do, Mr and Mrs. Roy Rother ham and Miss Frances Rother ham. Carol was presented some nice gifts in honor of the occasion. Becky Miller, Barbara John ston, Glenda Napier, Julia Fry and David Shrader are attending the Cleveland Bible Camp of the United Presbyterian church this week. Miss Sandra Shrader, Ew ing, is one of the conselors at the camp for the three weeks. Rev Wm, H Ross attended a called meeting of the Niobrara presbytery at Camp Cleveland Monday afternoon Mr. and Mrs James Tinsley and Duane were dinner and eve ning guests at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Bud Dietz at Oakdale Thurs day. The occasion was in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Tinsley. Mrs. Ed Urban and Mrs. Anna Boilwitt transacted business in O’Neill Saturday. Mr and Mrs. Ernest Norwood are attending the services being held at the Wesleyan Methodist church in O’Neill this week. Guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. A Hobbs were Mr. and Mrs. John Turay and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Mick Ed Yelli and family. Miss Kay Bergstrom, a student at the Nebraska State Teachers College, Wayne, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bergstrom. Miss Betty Wright, Omaha, who spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Mildred Wright, re turned to Omaha Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Davis and family spent the weekend at Valentine, Nebr., visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs Orval Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Larsen were guests of the members of the Facts and Fun Home Extension Club and their husbands Tues day, evening, June 4, at the par lors of the First Methodist church for a no host dinner in honor of their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Ralph Eacker, program chairman, arranged an evening’s entertainment of musical selec tions popular fifty years ago by Mrs. Curtis Roberts, pianist, who also sang a solo and led the group in singing favorite hymns of the couple. Mrs Andrew Ol son, a senior member of the club gave a reading and told two clever stories. Mrs. W. E. Davis also gave a reading, “The Golden Years”. A gift was presented from the club to Mr. and Mrs. Larsen by Mrs. H. R. Harris. A picnic dinner was served by the self invited guests. Mrs Fred Bollwitt baked and decorat ed the wedding anniversary cake and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Boll witt presented the birthday cake. The afternoon hours were spent visiting while the youngsters en joyed out-of-door games. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Vic tor Bollwitt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bollwitt and family. Mr. and Mrs. John Kaczor, Mrs. Robert Pruden and family, Ew ing, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Boll witt and family, Neligh, Alvin Walter and family, Grand Island. Guests at the Sis Ebbengaard home for supper and the evening on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stevens, Clearwater. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbengaard re turned to their Ewing home from Florida about two weeks ago. “The Flag Code" was the topic for the lesson of the Facts and Fun Home Extension club when they met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ben Larsen, presented by Mrs. H. R. Harris who also included the flag his tory as a part of the lesson. Days on which to display the flag dur ing the year was given and all members agreed that these days should be observed by all: Mrs. J. L. Pruden conducted the business meeting which con sisted of routine business. Cards were sent to Mrs. Joe Sturbaum. Mrs. Eva Kaczor, Mrs. Will Con ner and Charles Rotherham by the card secretary, Mrs. Ben Lar sen. Pamphlets were given on “Cuts of Meat” and “Ground Beef. Passport to Far-Away Eat ing”. Twelve answered to roll call. Guests were Mrs. Roland Hord. Ewing and Mrs. Darrel] Neitzke and daughter of Spencer. Mrs. EUa Ziems assisted the hostess in serving lunch. Given as program numbers were two readings: "A Cure for the Blues” by Mrs Harry Van Horn and "Billion Dollar Baby” by Jane Goudaell. The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. Van Horn, with a picnic lunch, July 11. Mrs. Chester Taylor will present the lesson. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Agosti and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Lyle McNabb and family, Omaha, Mr. Kent Rotherham, Mrs. Charles Roth and Sister Vemocia, Den ver, Colo., Mr. and Mrs Gene Streeter and family, Dan Rother ham, Lincoln, have all returned to their home after having been called home due to the illness of their father and father-in-law, Charles Rotherham. Mr. Rotherham who suffered a severe heart attack about ten days ago is reported to be show ing improvement at St Anthony’s Hospital, O’Neill. Mrs. Rother ham and some member of his family has been with him all the time during his confinement there. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Noffke left Monday to return to their home at Superior, Nebraska, after visiting his mother and other re latives in Ewing Saturday and Sunday. Installation of officers for the Womens Society of Christian Ser vice was held Wednesday after noon at the parlors of the church conducted by Mrs. Henry Flem ing, past president of the S<»cie ty as the installing officer. Installed were: Mrs. James Tinsley, president; Mrs. Fred Bollwitt, vice-president; Mrs. Harry Van Horn, recording sec retary; Miss Hazel Ruby, trea surer and the following secretar ies, Mrs. Ray Sedivy, Children’s Work; Mrs. Earl VanOstrand, Christian social relations; Mrs. L. A. Hobbs, literature and publica tions; Mrs. Willis Rockey, Mis sionary education and service; Mrs. Curtis Roberts, promotion; Mrs. Stanley Davis, spiritual life; Mrs. H. R. Harris, student work; Mrs. Weldon Alexander, supply work; Mrs. Stanley Davis, youth work; and on the nominating committee, Mrs. Harry Van Horn, chairman, Mrs. L. A. Hobbs and Mrs. Willis Rockey. “Special” was a poem given for the thought for the day by Mrs. Bollwitt which opened the meet ing in charge of Mrs. Tinsley. Mrs Bedivy gave a report on the Daily Vacation Bible school held last week, as to attendance and the program concluding the week's work. Discussed were an officer’s training day and a bake sale for funds to add to their dish collec tion in the kitchen. Dates for these are to be announced later. The Society has been invited by the EUB Church at Orchard June 12 to be present when Mrs. Cora Cannenburg shows slides and speaks on her trip to the Holy Landa A card was signed by all mem bers present to be included in the gift presented to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Larsen on their 50th wedding anniversary. A thank you card was received from Mrs Earl Bil lings. Mrs. Tinsley conducted the de votional period and also presented the lesson ‘ Pledge Services”. Guests were Miss Vaulda Wel ke and Mrs. W. E. Davis. Refreshment hostesses were Mrs. Henry Fleming and Mrs. Stanley Davis. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rockey ar rived Tuesday from their Florida home for an extended visit with relatives and friends in the Ew ing vicinity. Mrs. Alleeretti is the former Leonarda Reardon of the Ewing community. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tomjack and family went to Tilden Sunday where they joined a family ga thering for a picnic dinner in hon or of her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Bob James and family from Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Arthur Kropp is spending a few days in Lincoln visiting relatives. Donald Hahlbeck and Jack Kropp who recently passed their physicals for service in the U. S. Army left Thursday and both are stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck went to Norfolk Monday to visit her uncle Ernest Shobe who had been a patient at the University hospi tal, Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hamilton moved last week to Walthill, Nebr., where he will be employed by the telephone company. Mr. Hamilton had been manager for several years of the telephone ex change in Ewing. Mrs. Herman Stott spent Fri day visiting at the C. C. Hahl beck home. Mr. and Mrs. Merwin Butler from Washington State were sup per and evening guests at the Ray Butler home. Miss Leonora Tuttle spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Tuttle. She is a student at the Nebraska State Teachers College at Wayne. Mrs. Joe Sturbaum who has been a patient at the Antelope Memorial hospital for a few days, was able to come home Friday. Chambers News By Mrs. E. R. Carpenter A twister hit Sunday Southeast of town between the Albert Har kins and the Paul Hubei places, uprooting big trees. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Werner have recently purchased the L. V. Cooper place in the north part of town. They plan to mow there later. Jean Marie Thomson had her tonsils removed at St. Anthony's hospital Tuesday. Venus News By Mr*. The severe wind storm Wed nesday night broke many trees and branches, scattered hay stacks and broke telephone poles but no rain was received. Mrs. George Jeffrey visited at the Robert Mitchell home, Oma ha, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Caskey drove the Kenneth Caskeys to their home in Norfolk, Wednes day. Thursday evening visitors at the Harry Caskey home were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser. Meek News By Mrs. Fred Iiodberg The rains of the past week have been most welcome and varied greatly in amount. The one that came Saturday evening was accompanied by some light ning. Two head of horses were killed Saturday night belonging to Allen and Henry Walters. Mrs. Lloyd Hull is expecting her parents the first of the week Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hancock, San Bernardino, Calif. They enjoy the mulberry season and make it a point to be here at that time of year. Due to the hard freeze in May the Mulberries were kill ed and the strawberry crop is damaged. Neighbors, relatives and friends gathered at the Oswald Drueke home Monday night for a house warming party. The Oswald Drueke family at tended a picnic at the Don Hynes home Sunday in honor of Madel ine's sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tangeman and boys, Denver, Colo., who are visiting here. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fox and Marlene were to Yankton last week to visit the Helmuth Holm gren family. Mrs. Viola Hall spent last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs Lawrence Dobrovolny and family. Mrs. Charles Connell, Newport and Miss Cindy Giles were the Bible school teachers at Paddock Union last week. Sixteen pupils were enrolled. The program was held Friday night. Mrs. Axel Borg accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Al Gaskil and Mrs. Russel Borg and children to Sioux City Friday where they met Rus se.l Mardel and the children re turned to Des Moines with him Mrs. Eloise Johnson is attend ing summer school at Wafne and Charles Fox, Spencer, is attend ing school at Chadron which started Monday. Mrs. Carrie Borg was honored on her 8th birthday Wednesday at a dinner at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rouse. Others pre sent were Marvel Borg, Maude Rouse. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rouse and family, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rouse and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hubby and Jes sie Kaczor. Mrs. Vernon Harding and the Gerald Harding boys were to Butte Wednesday to visit the Dick Femau family. Dick has been recently dismissed from the hospital and glad to be home again. Tuesday they called on Mrs. Elizabeth Conard. Miss Carlene Hallgrimson who graduated from Evangel college, Springfield. Mo., has accepted a position of teaching English at Detroit. Michigan for the com ing school year. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Miller, Mr. Austin Searles met at the De wayne Anson home Thursday evening. The men are members of the school board and prepar ed their books for school meeting which takes place Monday eve ning at District 1. The 4-H club met at the home of Larry and Sue Nelson Friday night. Plans were made to pre pare a float to enter the par ade Friday evening at the O'Neill Rodeo The neat meeting to be with Kathryn Devall. The Paddock Community aid met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs George Nelson Fourteen members 1 guest was present The scripture lesson was given by Wilma Anson Mary Luber was remembered for her birthday and Lena Nelson, Carroll Devall and Delia Harrison were remembered for their anniversaries. The la dies plan to serve at the Robert son reunion to be held at the Sam Robertson home July 1 and the regular meeting day has been postponed until July 10 when they plan to meet with Mrs Walter Devall. Mr and Mrs Paul Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hubby were Thursday night visitors at the Ed Kaezor home. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet Devall and boys were Sunday dinner guests at the Elmer lievull home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walters were dinner guests Sunday at the Christine Johnson home. Sharleen Johring was an ov ernignt guest Friday of Debra and Nancy Anderson. Mr. Richard Burgstrom, Hyan nis, Mass., is visiting at the Carl Hallgrimson home. Mary Peterson and Mrs. Jim McNulty helped serve for the Smith-Putnain wedding reception at the parish hall Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Hull vis ited Levi Hull at the Lynch hos pital Wednesday. Junior Walters had his tonsils and adenoids removed Jhursday at the Lynch hospital. The Rev. and Mrs. Christoffersen called Friday at the Walters home. Mrs. Merlin Anderson and girls called Saturday and the Bennie Johring family and Henry Walters family were Sunday callers. Deloit News By Mrs. H. Bslmer Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDon ald were supper guests at the Jim McDonald home in O’Neill Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Turner of Lebanon, Ore., were also guests. Mrs. Alice Lodge came home with Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Bar tak when they returned from the Bartak reunion in Stanton on Sun day. On Sunday the Bartaks were guests at the Leo Murphy home in Columbus. Mrs. Lodge remain ed for a longer visit. On Tuesday evening a party was given for Mrs. Alice Lodge on her 82nd birthday at the Lam Mrs E. L. Sisson, Mrs. Alice Lodge and Mrs. L. L. Bartak called Wednesday morning at the Charles McDonald home. A Larson family reunion is be ing planned for Sunday, June 30 at the Neligh park in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Christon of Midland, Tex., who will be vis iting relatives and friends here. A number of farmers were busy replanting com the past two weeks due to cut worms, the killing frost or the lack of mois ture. We are badly in need of moisture. The temperature has been around the 100 degree mark for the past several days. Some thing of a record for this time of year. Virtus Lee has been employ ed by the Heintz Tree service and left with them for Colorado last week. His mother, Anita Lee, left Thursday by bus for Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ward of New York City have been visiting re latives in this community. Mrs. Ward was formerly Zefla John son. Edward Moser, sojth of Clear water, has purchased the former Scott Clow farm from Mrs. An na Hupp of Norfolk. The Mosers are fanning the place. Mrs. Ralph Tomjack was able to return home from the Neligh hospital on Thursday evening.
