Atkinson News I^ast Week's News Mrs. Kerne Davis was admitt ed to the Atkinson Memorial hospital Sunday for medical care Mrs. Dean Funk and children went to Omaha last Wednesday where she visited her parents, Mr and Mrs. Farmer Withers, and also a sister, Mrs Chuck Tillot son and family who is also spend ing some time in the Withers home Mrs. Tillotson is the for mer Sharon Withers Mr and Mrs. Chuck Tillotson have made their home in Chicago for several years and are moving to Houston, Tex., where he will he working Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Hensley and girls came from Brittan, S D last week to visit at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs Fred Hayes in the Atkinson commjni ty Mr and Mrs. Fred Richardson were in Brunswick and Inman Memorial Day. They were also dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Senseney. Mrs Senseney is a sister of Mrs Richardson Mrs. Loren Hickok and child ren, Casper, Wyo., arrived last Thursday to spend three weeks visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Orville Siebert and other rela tives. Mr and Mrs. Neil Ioavis ar rived Memorial Day from Den by, 9. D. to spend the weekend with relatives. About 36 women registered last Friday at the Cleveland church basement to ceh-torate the 35th anniversary of this organization. The table was beautifully decor ated and the three tier cake was decorated for the special occa sion and names of the charter members were written on the cake. The afternoon events began with the reading of the parlimen tary law and the names of the charter members. Ice Cream and cake were serv ed for refreshments In parting the ladies hope there will be more reunions of this lively club group. Those from Atkinson attending were, Mrs Charley Mlinar, Mrs. George Beck, Mrs Elmer Mc Curg and Mrs. George Wedige, all former members. Mrs Henry Remheiroer ol Spencer w as admitted to the At kinson Memorial hospital last Tuesday evening where she un derwent major surgery on Wed nesday morning. She was releas ed from the hospital on Tues day of this week. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Faroer of Harlan, la., and Dr and Mrs Ben Farner of Norfolk spent Memor ial Day in Stuart where they re newed old acquaintances in the Stuart and Atkinson communit ies. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wefso came from Rushville Memorial Day to spend a couple of days visiting relatives. They were guests in the home of his sisters, Mrs. Sophia Brown and Mrs Frances Stuart in O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McClurg and family arrived in 9tjart last Wednesday to spend Memorial day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Allyn They also vis ited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClurg in Atkinson on Thursday afternoon before re turning to their home in Broken Bow Mr and Mrs. Eldon White and Roger of Burwell visited last Tuesday afternoon in the William Wefso and Elmer McClurg homes. Mrs. Leonard Jungman was hos tess to the Atkinson Civic Im provement Garden club on Mon day evening, May 27 at her home m Atkinson Fifteen mem bers answered roll call by nam ing their most trying garden j»est. Many unusual ones were named such as the roaming city dogs, the robins which are a real ly gullable pest right at this strawberry picking time, the worm, aphid and many others. The lesson material was on pest control, me utstrici o picaiucm, Mrs. Opal Keatmg announced that the Chambers Garden club will be host to the Summer Work Shop with the date to be announ ced later. Following the business meeting the hostess showed slides of her trip taken on the Teachers tour through the northwest and Can ada, last summer. The group adjourned to meet on June 10. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wefso of Rushville were last Friday eve ning dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brewster and family in Stuart. Mrs Elmer McClurg drove to Lincoln Monday of this week to get her daughter, Donna McClurg who has completed her freshman year at the University. They re turned to Atkinson on Tuesday. Mrs. Robert Fredericks and boys arrived in Atkinson last Thursday from Lubback, Tex. They were accompanied by her father, Wes Kirkland who has spent several months there. Mrs. Fredericks is the former Onal lee Kirkland, she’s been visiting relatives and friends and also at tended the alumni banquet on Monday evening here. Mrs. J. W. Carlson came Mon day morning to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Wefso. She also attended the alumni banquet which was held at the High School Auditorium on Monday night. Mrs. Carlson returned to Crofton on Tuesday. Miss Phyllis Gilg is assisting at the Schultz Drug store while Cathy Penry is on vacation for a couple of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bouska and Donald Wedige went to Om aha Wednesday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ziska and Denny arrived home last Sunday alter getting acquainted with their new grandson, Tommy Schaaf The proud parents are Mr and Mrs Tom G. Schaaf Mr and Mrs. Alfred Schaaf are the paternal grandparents They al so attended the wedding of their, son, Don Ziska The new married couple are enjoying a honeymoon in the northwestern states and Canada Mr and Mrs Eugene Ziska and Linda, all of O'Neill, also attended the wedding in Om aha. Ewing News By Mrs. Harold Harn* Last Week's News There was a small attendance at the Memorial Day service held at the auditorium of the Ewing public school Thursday, May 30,1 sponsored by the American Le gion and Auxiliary, Sanders Post No. 214. The Ewing school band played a prelude of appropriate music for the occasion directed by John Berigan. Colors were presented by the Legion and Auxiliary. Prayer was given by Rev. Peter F. Burke of St. Peter’s church. A duet, “One Little Candle” was sung by Linda Schmiser and j Glenellen McDaniel with Miss Sandra Tellander, pianist. The band played two selections dur ing the program. Dr. William H. Ross, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, Ewing, gave the address after the benediction by Rev. Burke, ceremonies were held at the Elk horn River bridge honoring those who gave their lives in the U. S. Navy and at the grave of the un known soldier at St. Peter s and the Ewing cemeteries. Members of the American Le gion made up the firing squad.
