a picnic dinner at one o'clock and
ice cream and cake at four o’
clock Mrs. Ed Loewe presided
at the business meeting. The past
year they had 7 marriages, 7
births and no deaths. The officers
were re-elected for another year.

serious illness of Mr. Banks mo

Mr. and Mrs. James Kelley and
Ann Kelley, who are employed
at Jefferson, S. D. spent Monday
visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kel
ley and family.

Kathy Rubeck, Columbus, was
honored at a miscellaneous show
er Saturday evening at the Meth
odist church parlors. About 70
relatives and friends were pre
sent for the occasion. The pro
gram with Miss Alice Johnson as
narrator, consisted of a skit fea
turing Mrs. Vernon Schmidt as
the bridegroom and Mrs. Richard
Lehman as the bride; also two
solos, “A Million Dollar Baby”
and “Let The Rest ol the World
go by”, by Mrs. W. H. Craw
ford. Assisting the guest of hon
or in opening her gifts were her
mother, Mrs. Elwin Rubeck, her
grandmother, Mrs. John Honey
well, Mrs. Milford Coats, O'Neill,
Carol May, Marie Hoerle and
Kay Tracy. Lunch was served by
friends. Miss Rubeck will marry
Maurice Rasmussen, Columbus,
on June 30th.
The June meeting of the Amer
ican Legion was held at the home
of Mrs. Louis Walters Friday
evening with 10 members pre
sent. Also present were two vis
itors, Mrs. Clarence Wyant and
Airs. Erna Tucker. The presi
dent, Mrs. Donald Green, presid
ed. The hymn “Abide With Me”
was sung. A letter from the dis
trict Legion Commander regard
ing transportation for Boy's and
Girl’s State at Lincoln was read.
It was voted to pay the legion
$5.00 on the bus fare. Some cards
of thanks were read Mrs. W. H.
Crawford was elected president
of the unit for the coming year.
Lunch was serv ed by the hostess.
Twenty members were present
for the meeting of the Woman’s
Society of Christian Service held
Thursday p.m. at the Methodist
church. Mrs. Lyman Covey was
in charge of the Worship with
Mrs. Darrel Gillette and Mrs. T.
E. Newhouse in charge of the In
stallation of new officers. The
president, Mrs. G. H. Adams op
ened the business session with a
meditation. There were several
reports from the various officers
The meeting closed with the
Lord's prayer and lunch was
served by Mrs. Kenneth Adams
and Mrs. Joe Daas.
Mrs. Leon Hertel returned
home Wednesday from a 10 day
trip and visit with relatives in
several states. She accompanied
her two sisters, Mr. and Mrs,
Fred Tate and Mrs Palmer Niel
son, Sheridan, Wyo. Leaving or

Chambers community Sunday
p.m. The amount ranged from
1 inch north of town to 2 inches
siwth. Dale Mitchell, southwest
of Swan Lake, reports 2 inches
of rain and some damaging hail

the Cedar Creek church area.
Larry Swanson and Judy Beed
arrived home Saturday from Chi
cago where he attends the Moody
Bible Institute and where she is
employed. They will have a weeks
vacation.
