Atkinson News
Mr and Mrs. Lavern Engler,
O’Neill, attended the KC banquet
in Atkinson Sunday night. Their
children, Beth, Paula and Sandra
spent the evening with Barbara
Mlinar.
Capt. and Mrs. Robert Mack,
Jerry, Timmy, Andrea and Dina
arrived in Atkinson to spend a
thirty day leave with his rela
tives and friends in and around
the Atkinson community. They
have been living in Sacramento,
Calif., and are enroute to his new
assignment at Wurthsmith Air
Force Base in Oscoda, Mich. En
route to Osceda they will visit
her mother in Madison, Wise.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith were
among the many relatives and
friends and neighbors who ga
thered Sunday at the Methodist
church parsonage in Amelia to
enjoy a farewell picnic dinner for
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Doolittle and
family who are leaving soon for
their new home.

Mrs. Lawrence Pacha who was
also visiting in Denver with their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Ronnie Frickel. The Min
ers and Pachas returned home
on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Richardson
were last Thursday shoppers in
Norfolk.
Charlie Fontaine came from Va
lentine last Saturday to visit his
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Gerald Rothchild and family
for the weekend.
Mrs. Charles Shane and child
ren visited with her mother, Mrs
Carl Smith Monday. Mrs. Shane
brought the little folks in to en
roll in Bible School.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Dunn
spent the weekend with relatives
and friends. They returned to
Omaha Sunday evening.
Mrs. Millie Miller, former res
ident of Atkinson, arrived Mon
day from Martin, S. D. to spend
the week with her sister, Mrs.
Gilbert Engler and other relatives
and friends. Mrs. Miller has been
visiting in Martin and is enroute
to her home in Omaha.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith were
Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. William Fryrear of Amelia.
Mr and Mrs. Leo Kramer and
Mrs. Eva Thompson and son,
Larry of Bassett are enjoying
a three week vacation in the
southern sunshine. They plan to
visit Leo’s cousin, Mr. and Mrs.
John Kramer near Palm Beach.
Fla., and continue on down into
the Florida Keyes. An excursion
is planned to Naussau before they

theran church met to honor Mrs
Emil Kuehn. On Sjnday mem
bers of the St. John Lutheran
church, relatives and friends met
at the City Park with well filled
picnic baskets for a farewell to
Rev. and Mrs. Emil Kuehn and
family who will leave Friday for
their new home in Fremont
where he will begin his duties
with the First Lutheran church
there. The Kuehns have been
very active in the affairs of the
community and they are leaving
many many friends to wish them
well in their new location.
Mr and Mrs. Stamev Johnson
returned last Wednesday after
spending a few days visiting rela
tives and friends in Lyons, Oak
land and Omaha.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kluthe spent
the past weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Gilbert Schneider and fam
ily. Mrs. Kluthe is a sister of
Mrs. Schneider. Mr. and Mrs.
Kluthe returned to Elgin Sunday
evening.
The Golden Rod Garden club,
Atkinson, met May 23 at the home
of Mrs. Gaines Rzeszotarski. Ten
members and one guest, Mrs.
Don Rzeszotarski were present.
Roll call was answered with ‘‘A
Flower Garden Quotation”.
Reports were given by mem
bers on visits to shut-ins and
senior citizens.
The hostess had arrangements
of iris from her garden.
The next meeting will be June
2 at the home of Mrs. Robert
Martens.

week with Mr. Chambers and at
tending the closrng activities of
the Ewing Public School. The
Chambers planned a trip through
the Black Hills on their way back
to Colorado.
A family gathering was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al
bert Kallhoff, O’Neill, Sunday,
honoring their daughter and son
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gla
ser from California. A picnic din
ner was served. Visiting was the
pastime for the afternoon hours.

word of the death of her sister,

was a sufferer of arthritis and
had been confined to a wheel
chair. Mrs. Pollock has spent the
last two winters at her home in
California.

on the island at present, after ser

their granddaughter, Sarah Ma
rie Neitzke, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs Darrell Neitzke, at the Im
manual Lutheran church at Spen
cer, Sunday, May 26, with the
Rev. Donald Burgdorf officiating.

An impressive candlelight court
of honor was held Friday eve
ning at the Legion club when
nine boys of Boy Scout Troop
281 were advanced to second
class scouts.

hill Area gave a talk on camp
life for scouts at camporees and
the summer camp which will be
held in July at Grand Island. He
answered many questions of par
ents not familiar with this part
of scouting. He also showed film
in color "What Is Boy Scouting?"
