On June 2 and 3 the junior members are planning to go to Minatare. Barbara Mlinar gave a report on her visits to the Veteran’s hos pital and the Soldiers and Sail ors Home, both in Grand Island. Mrs. Leo Monahan reported that has been collected thus far from the sale of poppies. It was voted to present a tel evision set to the Good Samari tian Home. Roy Aten presented the Unit with a desk. Mrs. Roy Rios, Mrs. Fred Mack and Mrs. Carrie Keating were elected to serve on the nominating committee. The Atkinson post will be hosts to the County convention in Ju ly and they will honor all past county presidents. Following the meeting the Gold Star mothers and sisters were honored. Mrs. Claude Humphrey was in charge of the tea and she also baked and decorated in gold a three tier cake. A trio consisting of Julia Fo therston, Bonnie Dobrovolny and Carol Hansen, sang ‘‘My Buddy” and “Flanders Field”. A poem “In Flanders Field” was read by Mrs. Leo Monahan, Mrs Ed Schmuecker read “Americans Answer” and Mrs. Roy Ries, “Poppy Day Facts”. Mothers being honored were Mrs. Fred Mack. Mrs. Fred Jung man, Mrs. George Goldfuss, Mrs. Susie Tushla, Mrs. John Zahrad icek, Mrs. Eve Soger, Mrs. Au gust Troshynski, Mrs. Ray Car lyle and Mrs. Perry Barnes. Sis ters honored were Mrs. Frank Kilmurry, Mrs. Frank Murphy, Mrs. John O. Olson, Mrs. A. G. Miller and Mrs. Herman McDan iels. The program ended with the hymn of the month, “Onward Christian Soldiers”. A beautiful American Legion Auxiliary lamp was presented by the Gold Star Mothers to the Unit for Life membership ex tended to them this year. More than 70 office personnel from associations in Iowa, Ne braska, South Dakota and Wy oming attended the meeting sponsored by the Federal Inter mediate Credit Bank of Omaha. Farmers Cast Ballots On Wheat Program Holt County farmers gave their consent to the proposed wheat program as they cast 81 votes for and 64 against in Tuesday’s election. On the referendum committee in Holt county were Otto Terrill, Page, Morris Graham and Ernie Kloppenborg, O’Neill. Rites Held for Loren C. Doty At Dakota City Funeral services were held for Loren C. Doty, 56, May 17 at the Methodist church, Dakota City. The Rev. Lincoln Justice officiat ed. Pallbearers were Walter Ren kel, L. A. Peterson, Ellsworth Stoen, Henry Krumwiede, Ward Henderson and Max Cornell. Mr. Doty was born February 6, 1907 in Clearwater and died May 13 in a Grand Island hos pital. He married Wilma Conner, Ew ing, September 25, 1933 at Bas sett. He is survived by his wife, Wil ma, daughters, Lorri, Grand Is land, Mrs. Robert Land and Mrs. Shirley Hassel, both of Dakota City, father. Fay Doty.
