Chambers News My Mr*. E. K. UtrpuUf E. M. Jarman, Chambers, this spring planted some 9500 trees, from Clark-McNary. Mr. Jarman has planted several thousand trees each spring for the past 24 years. Mostly he plants red ce llar. He is a soil conservation en thusist and his ranch south of Chambers shows his keen inter, est in the project. Judy Smith was honored at a post nuptial siv/wer in the* par lors of St. Paul’s Lutheran church Saturday evening A large crowd of friends and relatives were present for the occasion Mrs. Dale Adams sponsored the shower with High School girls in charge of the program. A hum orous skit, depicting the differ ence in the courtship of Judy’s parents and her own, was given by Susan Laliue, Janet Rickard, Betty Hertel and Mary Fleek, with Darla Waldo as reader. There was also a quartette, Mary Fleek, Sasan LaRue, Betty Her lei aim iwna waiao wun ueonie Eisenhauer, pianist, who sang, ‘'Band of Gold”. Assisting the bride to be in op ening her many gifts were her mother, Mrs. Wayne Smith, Chambers and his mother, Mrs. L. B. Putnam, O’Neill. Mrs. Richard Grimes recorded the gifts. Irene Brown, O’Neill, was in charge of the guest book. Lunch was served by ladies of the church. A sound color film "Suicide Mountain” was shown at the Memorial Baptist church Sunday evening On Tuesday evening a Gospel team from the Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Al berta, Canada, were at the church. Rev. J. M. Murry was the speaker. There were special num bers both vocal and instrumen tal. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Gillette vis ited at the home of her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bernt and family, Stuart, Sun day. Herman, Anna and William Schipman visited Sunday in the John Schipman home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baker, Am elia, wi re Sunday afternoon call ers in the Erwin Carpenter home. Mr. and Mrs. William Turner were Sunday dinner guests in the Wayne Stevens Home, tne occa sion being Mrs. Turner’s birthday anniversary. Mrs. Andrew Gilbert went to Butte Thursday to visit her sis ter, Mrs. Phoebe Bartos. Another sister, Mrs. Charles Rogge, Sioux Falls, S. D. was also a visitor in Mrs. Bartos’ home on Friday. Mrs. Gilbert was an overnight guest of her son and daughter-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Gilbert, Stuart, Friday, returning home Saturday. Mrs. Kenneth Weller went to Craig Friday to attend the Jun ior-Senior banquet. Mr. Weller is superintendent of the Craig schools and their son, Ladean, is a senior. Mrs. Weller, who is teaching southeast of Chambers this year will teach in Craig next year, grades 3 and 4. Mr. Weller is contracted there as superin tendent for another year. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Leighton, I Cook, Wash., came Friday and were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Carpenter. Mrs. Car penter and the Leightens called on Mrs. G. H. Grimes in the p.m. and in the evening had as guests in the Carpenter home to visit the Leightons, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coolidge and Mrs. Lloyd Gleed. The Washington friends also call ed at the A. A. Walter home Sat urday a.m. on their way to Iowa for a family reunion. The Leigh tons were formerly of Chambers. Ralph Adams had the misfor tune to severely cut his foot on a broken bottle in the water at Goose Lake Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walter vis ited their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Walter at Schuyler from Thursday until Monday. A shower honoring Carolyn Harley Barthel is being planned for Wednesday, May 15 at the Lutheran church. Mrs. Gaius Wintermote entered St. Anthony’s hospital 9unday for medical care. Funeral services for William Barelman, Wisner, were held Friday p.m. Mr. Barelman was a brother of Mrs. Ema Tucker, Chambers. She has been with her brother for several weeks. She is liv ing in the property east of the Crystal Ball room, where she liv ed before leaving here several years ago. Dr. and Mrs. J. W Carlson came Saturday evening to spend the weekend with her parents, Mr. anti Mrs. William Wefso. They returned to Crofton Sunday evening. Mrs. Sophia Brown and Fran ces Stuart of O'Neill and William Wefso drove to Lincoln last Fri day where they attended the fun eral on Saturday of their cousin, Joseph Wishart They returned home Sunday evening Mr and Mrs John Mack, who have been attending Wayne col lege, have returned to Atkinson and will be living in Atkinson for the summer months. The Food and Plant sale spon sored by the Civic Improvement Garden club on Saturday drew buyers from a large area and the members appreciate the patron given them by the general public.
