Mrs. John Latzel, who is ser iously ill at St. Anthony’s hos pital for the past three weeks suffered a stroke at her home in Ewing on Sunday, March 31. Mr and Mrs. John Engebret son, Debby, Mrs. Everett Voor hies and granddaughter, Kelly Bear of Kalispell, Mont., were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Latzel and other relatives. Mrs. Engebret son and Mrs. Voorhies are daugh ters of Mr. and Mrs. John Lat zel. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson of Gordon, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs William Trotter, daughters and grand daughter of Omaha, wen weekend guests at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. John Latzel and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Kaczor and family. Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Trotter are sisters of Mrs. John Latzel, who is seriously ill at St. An thony’s hospital. She has been there for the past three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Kaczor were hosts at a family gathering on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Thiele and family of Clearwater and Mr. John Latzel of Ewing. Mrs. Helen Grim, kindergarten instructor of the Ewing public. school, announced that all child- ! ren who have reached their fifth birthday on or before October 15, 1963, and will attended the Ewing public school next year, are invited to be guests from 9:00 to 1LOO a.m. and from 1:00 to 3:00 a.m. on April 25th in the kindergarten room. Parents are invited also to the kindergarten visitation. Mrs. Ernest Norwood and Ar lene Pelletier accompanied by Mrs. Alta Meyers went to Nor folk Sunday to attend the 2:00 p.m. wedding of Miss Edna May Suhr and James Hoven, held at the Church of the Nazarene. On their way back to Ewing, they stopped at the Tilden hos pital to bring Mr. Norwood home who had been a patient there for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Gail Boies and Mr. and Mrs. Julian Sojka trans acted business in Norfolk Thurs day evening. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Mitteis Sunday eve ning were Mr. and Mrs. Gail Boies. Merry Matrons club met Thurs day with Mrs. Bill Hubei. The 12 members present answered roll call by telling “What Age I i Would Like To Be”. The after noon was spent sewing clothes for the university hospital. The lesson on “Drapery” was given by Mrs. Frank Hawk and Mrs. Marcus Pierson. The next meeting will be witn Mrs. Jim Hawk, May 16. The Sandhill District Campor ee May 3, 4 and 5 for Boy Scouts at’Long Pine was the topic for discussion and planning for the scout officials who attended the Hound Table at O'Neill Thursday evening at the Presbyterian church. Information was given on the Order of the Arrow award Roy Humrich, scoutmaster of Troop 245, O’Neill, gave a talk on "Flag Etiquette”. Mrs. Vance Anson and Mrs. Weldon Alexan Ewing music students in co operation with students from In man and Page, presented a pre music recital at the auditorium of the Ewing public school, Tues day at 7:30 p.m. Both vocal and instrumental numbers were offered with the Ewing and Page bands giving performances. All students par ticipating in the pre-contest will be entered in the District III Mu sic Contest at O'Neill on Thurs day, April 25. Guest clinician and critic was Mr. Duane Booth, conductor of the Creighton High School band. Louis C. Stamp, Ewing, was among the three Holt County youths that left Tuesday for Omaha where they were induct ed into the armed forces. Poppy Day for the Ewing com munity has been set for Satur day, May 11, by the American Le gion Auxiliary Sanders Post No. 214 when they met Thursday eve ning at the Legion club. Mrs. Frank Belmer is the chairman with Mrs. Wayne Shrader co chairman. Mrs. R. H. Shain, president, conducted the business meeting. She also gave a report on the supper served by the Auxiliary for the members of the Ewing Fire Department and their wives Tuesday evening. The Ewing Women's Club met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Stanley Davis with Mrs. Don Ruroede co-chairman. Ten members answered to roU call. Mrs. Van Creager of Meadow Grove was a guest. Mrs Jerry Rotherham, vice president, presided at the busi ness meeting due to the absence of the president, Mrs Dean Po fahl. Monday, April 22, was set for the date to canvass the Village of Ewing for the Cancer Drive beginning at five p m. A lesson on ceramics was given by Mrs. Creager. Each member made an article such as ash trays, cookies, jars, pixies, ani mals and other articles. Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. R Harris were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Nietzke of Spencer. Miss Leonora Tuttle is home for a short vacation from the Nebraska State Teachers College at Wayne, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vander snick spent the weekend in Om aha visiting at the home of her brother and sister-in-law. Mr, and Mrs Keith Gibson who have a new daughter born recently Mr and Mrs Leo Vandersnick stayed at the Vandersnick home to care for the family during the absence of their parents. Mr and Mrs Grover Shaw and family visited her mother, Mrs. Clarence Donohoe and family Sunday near O’Neill and they spent the evening at the home of Mr and Mrs. A1 Thomas in O’Neill. Mrs George Neal visited her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Don Ruroede one day last week. Mrs. S. M. Burtwistle and Mrs C. C. Hahlbeck attended a Tops cljb convention held at Hastings, Saturday.
