OHS Competes in
Two Triangulars
During Week
Coach Jim Taylor’g track squad
participated in two triangular
meets this past week. Last
Thursday the O'Neill team host
ed Neligh and St. Mary's. Then
on Tuesday the local cinder stars
travelled to Bassett.
In the Thursday meet, the O’
Neill High squad placed second
behind Neligh, who swept the tri
angular affair with 67 team
po.nts. Coach Don Templemey
er's SMA Cardinals rounded out
the competition.
In the field events, O'Neill's
Lonnie McKim and Mick Miller
soared 10' 3” to tie for the first
place honors. Rich Hill won the
shot with a toss of 47’ 4V and
placed second in the discus.
In the 100 -yard high hurdles,
Rich Frost took the first place
honor with a 14.1 timing. Rich
Hill and Denny Drayton placed
second and third in the highs.
Junior Larry Lieb came in sec
ond in the 140-yard low hurdles.
The only O’Neill sprinter who
could place was junior Bob Hal
stead, who came in second in the
hundred and who won the 220
yard dash.
The local relay teams finished
second in both the mile relay and
880 relay while Neligh swept
these events.
The local track boys came in
third at the triangular meet held
in Bassett. The hosting Rock
County team won the affair with
66 points. Valentine's 48 points
earned them 2nd place and O’
Neill wound up with a total of 42
team points.
The only first for the OHS boys
came in the pole vault when Lon
nie McKim cleared 10’ 2V2”, in
the low hurdles with Larry Lieb
clocked in 21.9 seconds and from
Big Rich Hill who swept the
shot put, high jump and low hur
dles. Hill also placed second in
the discus throw along with Bob
Halstead, who came in second
in the 100 yard dash.
O’Neill’s two-mile relay team
finished second.

will be married this week at Santa

The Friends of St. Mary’s are
planning for the last card party
of the school year Sunday, Apr.
2 at the parish hall.

returned Tuesday from a two
month vacation spent with their
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Sauser and daughter
Linda at Orcutt, Calif.
Mrs. Fred Appleby entertain

Gardens followed by bridge at
her home. Mrs. Dick Alexander
and Mrs. “Bud” Cole were
guests. Winners were Mrs. Jim
