Morgan Ward SECRETARY Amelia News By Miwi Florence IJmbtcy The WSCS met Wednesday, Apr. 3 at the home of Mrs. Heinie Frahm. There were twelve mem bers and two visitors present. Mrs. Blake Ott led the devotions and Mrs. IJoyd Waldo presented the lesson "United Effort". Mrs George Fullerton and Mrs. Waldo gave a report on the annual Dist rict meeting they attended at Lincoln on March 20-22. There was an election of officers held with most old officers being re elected. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Alice Prewitt on May 8. Mrs. Bertha Sammons was ill a few days after reaching home from her trip from Kimberly, Idaho. She became ill while on the train, but is feeling better now. Lance and Cap Withers, Atkin son, went to Omaha last week to be with their father, Charlie Withers, who was to have sur gery at an Omaha hospital. The Withers were all former Amelia community residents and Mr. Withers is near ninety years of age. Mrs. Ernest Johnston was plea santly surprised Thursday eve ning when friends came to help her celebrate her birthday anni versary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Berry, Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus and Mrs. Edith Andersen. Mrs. Edith Andersen is now living in her home in Amelia. She lived in the Clarence Wyantt home in Chambers while they were in Arizona during the win ter. Mrs. Andersen is employed as one of the cooks in the Cham bers school and has been re-hired for next term. She will rfirve from home the rest of the term. Mrs. Stella Sparks visited Mrs. Gertie Adair Saturday. They called at the Bob Adair arid Ralph Adair homes in the after noon. Miss Venita White, McPherson, Kan., is spending spring vaca tion with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn White. Mrs. Carrie Forbes, Atkinson, visited her son, Irvin Forbes, and family the past week. Mrs. Gene Thompson and Mrs. Heinie Frahm helped Mrs. Vem Sageser with house cleaning last week. Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Doolittle and family and Mrs. Gertie Adair 1 attended the Junior class play in Atkinson Friday evening. Joyce Doolittle was one of the members of the play cast. Sherry Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hansen, and Joyce Doolittle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Doolittle, who are Atkinson high school students went to Lincoln Saturday with the FFA group. The Grade school pupils and their mothers surprised their teacher, Mrs. Orland Fryrear, Tuesday afternoon on her birth day. The mothers went to the school house just at dismissal time taking along ice cream and cake. Mrs. Marvin Doolittle bak ed and decorated the cake. A large crowd was at the church Wednesday evening to see the pictures shown by Oscar Greenstreet. A social hour was enjoyed after the pictures and sandwiches, cookies and coffee were served. Ilerl Waldos have been having some remodeling done in their home. Dunk Peterson and Pete Frahm have been doing the car penter work for them and Mrs. I. Lew Backhaus helped refinish I. the walls.
