Meek News By Mrs. Fred lindberg The Project club met Tues day evening at the home of Phyl lis Dobrovolny. Twelve members and 1 guest were present. The lesson on care and treatment of floors was presented by Mrs. Bob Sanders. Twila Hicks, the reading leader, gave a report on the book “Mr Jones meet the Master”. What’s in the house was guess ed by Opal Hammerlin. Next meeting to be with Twila Hicks April 16. Mrs. Earny Wright and son, McCall, Idaho, came Friday to visit friends and relatives in th£ community having lived on a farm in this vicinity a few years ago. The women accompanied their husbands and enjoyed the good fellowship and dinner. Mrs. Albert Widtfeldt showed them around and reviewed the history of the making of the barn and called their attention to interesting facts and history concerning the place Jerry Schmitz and John Me Elvain were driver’s of the cars which took 10 girls from St Mary’s academy and their spon sor, Sister Josephine to Mary Crest school convention in Den ver. Mrs. Vernon Hard ing who has spent the past 2 weeks with her daughter and son-in-law and getting acquaint 1 ed with their new baby returned home with them. Mr. Levi Hull entered St. An thony's hospital for medical treatment. Having suffered from a light stroke. The flower club met at the Bob Sanders home Wednesday afternoon. The roll call was an swered by presenting an apron pattern. An idea exchange for the garden is to be used for April roll call. Thirteen members and 1 guest were present. Nellie Bos hart gave the lesson on straw berries of her own choosing. Mrs. Delia Harrison, Eunice Mann and Marjorie McNulty received birth day gifts from their secret pals. The place for the next meeting will be decided later. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jensen were Thursday night callers at the Martha Johring home. Mr. Hi Johnson returned home Wednesday from the Veterans hospital at Grand Island. Its a grand feeling to be home. Their visitors on Thursday evening were Mr. and Mrs. George Nel son and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dev all and Friday night callers were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ernst. Chambers News By Mrs. E. R. Carpenter Sixty-two persons attended the Athletic Banquet held Friday evening in the high school audi torium. Hostesses were the Pep Club and the C Club with the mothers serving the meal. Deco rations were streamers in the high school colors of orange and black. The students of junior high were the waiters and waitresses. Mailer of ceremonies was Roger Waldo. Guest speaker was Bob Hauver, coach of wrestling and track at Kearney State college. Also on the program was talks, "Team Work”, by Dennis Hoerle, "Enthusiasm”, by Donnie Swan son, “Ability”, by Judy Smith and "Manners” by Betty Hertel. The girls sextette sang two songs. Roll call was answered by nam ing a favorite floor wax. The lesson was on the care of hard surface materials. Earl Hess, pastor of the Chamliers and Amelia Metho dist churches has been at Wood River assisting with evangelistic services all of the past week, re turning home Sunday evening. The American Legion Auxiliary plans to hold their regular meet ing Friday evening, April 5th at the home of Mrs. Edd Coday. Oillege students spending the weekend at home were Kenneth Coolidge and Gary Holcomb, Lin coln, Gail Holcomb, Kearney, and Danelia Whitaker, Wayne. Judy Beed left Sunday for Chi cago, 111. where she expects to be employed. She is a recent graduate of the Grand Island Business College. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dewey are both patients in St. Anthony’s hospital, O’Neill. A. A. Walter went to Rochester, Minn., Monday of last week for a medical checkup. He returned Saturday. The wind storm which struck the vicinity Thursday turned over an 8x50 foot nearly new corn crib at the Raymond Beed place north west of town. Beginning next Sunday, Apr, 7 and continuing for a week will be the “New' Life Crusade” meet ings every evening at 8 o’clock and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Bap tist church. Guest speaker will ,be evangelist J. D. Carlson. Donald May who is employed with a construction company at Wayne spent the weekend with his family at Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Miller, Lincoln, came Saturday evening and visited until Sunday p.m. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Damme and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Durre have recently purchased a house in the east part of Chambers from Mrs. W. H. Hubbard. They plan to move to Chambers as soon as possible as they have also pur chased the Wintermote Black smith shop. The Bethany Woman’s Associ ation met March 13 in the home of Mrs. Bob Summerer with an attendance of 16 ladies and four children. Mrs. Ralph Hoffman was in charge of the meeting which opened with a hymn. The lesson “The New Community’’ based on scripture readings from ■ the books of Mark and Corin thians was presented by Mrs. Jim Gibson. Devotionals were given by Mrs. Walter Summerer. In the business meeting the mat ter of purchasing a new vacuum cleaner for the church was dis cussed. It was voted to sell the lunch trailer, subject to advice from the husbands. The next meeting will be at the church with Mrs. Irwin LaRue hostess and Mrs. Carol Summerer lesson leader. The president Mrs. G. H. Adams conducted the busi ness session, opening the meet ing with a meditation from the ‘“Upper Room”. Sixteen mem l>ers and one visitor were present. The treasurer reported that 5-10 had Ix-en contributed to mission work from the "Day of Prayer” service. The meeting closed with “The Lord's Prayer”. Lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. T. E. Newhouse and Mrs. Eugene Halsey. Mrs. Lloyd Gleed was an over night guest of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Adams, Atkinson, Wednesday. The next day March 28 was the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Gleed and Mr. Adams who are twins. The two enjoyed the day together as has been their cus tom throughout the years. Sumner Hall and son, Allen Hall, Neligh, who were in the Chambers vicinity Tuesday on business, were dinner guests in the E. R. Carpenter home. Mr. Hall and Mr. Carpenter were classmates at the school of Ag riculture, Lincoln, a number of years ago. Ralph Garwood spent several days last week on business in Texas. Mrs. Raymond Beed and daugh ter, Judy, returned Thursday from a three weeks visit with relatives in California. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott spent Wednesday evening in the Vera Wilkinson home. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Smith and daughter, Judy, drove to Grand Island Saturday.
