Mr. and Mrs. Don Burival and Marti, O’Neill, and Mr. and Mrs Larry Brookhouser were January 13 visitors at the Ralph Brook houser home. Mrs. Norman Rokahr under went surgery at an Omaha hos pital January 14. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Boelter, Creighton, are staying at the Rok ahr home. Dale Waring, Fairbury, visited January 14 at the Gerald Waring i---— home ami attended funeral ser vices for Vernon Boelter that af ternoon. Francis Boelter returned home January 10 from a Norfolk hos pital where he had undergone surgery. Mrs. John Kotrous, Omaha, vis ited her sisters, Mrs. Harry Cas key and Mrs, Archie Moser last week. Thursday the ladies visited their sister, Mrs. Joe Jacot sr., Verdigre, who is a patient at the Lundberg Memorial hospital, Creighton. Mrs. Jacot was to have surgery Friday. Veldon Godel was admitted to St. Anthony's hospital, O'Neill, January 17. American Legion Auxiliary unit 8(» held initiation for 41 new mem-1 bers at the regular meeting held Wednesday evening at the Legion | Hall. Mrs. M. W. Ellenwood, unit ] president presiding. Among the new members are nine seniors and 32 juniors, including two in fants. Mrs. Robert Gaylor, unit offi cer, performed the initiation cer emonies. Each member received a poppy, a miniature flag and a I copy of the constitution. Arrangements for the program were made by Mrs. Gary Lech, rehabilitation chairman. Alvin Heese, Holt county service and member of the state rehabilita tion committee was guest speak er. A film on rehabilitation was presented and narrated by Mrs. Roy Ries. The film, produced at the Veterans hospital in Grand Island, included a presentation of Mr. I. 0. Ellenwood of Central City while a patient at the hos pital. Mr. Ellenwood is the fa ther of the president’s late hus band, M. W. Ellenwood. Thar program also featured a talk, f “Spelling out our Respon sibility on Legislation’’ by Ma belle Bauman, legislative chair man. Barbara Mlinar reported on Child Welfare and the needs in the local community. Plans were made to present all Gold Star mothers a lifetime membership in the Auxiliary. Ten dollars was voted for the March of Dimes program. A pan cake and sausage supper will be given February 9, late afternoon and evening at the Legion Hall for the benefit of the Good Sa maritan borne. A rehabilitation detail, includ ing a community carpet sewing bee will be held at the hall Feb ruary 6. Refreshments will be served. Members observing January birthdays were honored Memorial services will be held at the next regular meeting Feb uary 20 in honor of former mem bers, Mrs. Neal McKee and Mrs. Mildred Chace. Fourteen youngsters registered Monday to start their first day of school. Mrs. Claire Utter-back has been contracted to teach the group.
