Venus News lly Mrs. KnJph Brookhounor The Help-U club was entertain ed January 16 at the home of Mrs. George Jeffrey Ten mem bers were present for the noon day dinner. The afternoon was spent embroidering and sewing carpet rags. A card party was planned Jan uary 22 to be held at the Page Improvement hall. Mrs. Ralph Brookhouser received the door prize The next meeting will be held February 6 at the home of Mrs. Leona Finch. George Heggemeyer called at the Dale Dorr home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Burival and Marti, O’Neill, and Mr. and Mrs Larry Brookhouser were January 13 visitors at the Ralph Brook houser home. Mrs. Norman Rokahr under went surgery at an Omaha hos pital January 14. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Boelter, Creighton, are staying at the Rok ahr home. Dale Waring, Fairbury, visited January 14 at the Gerald Waring i---— home ami attended funeral ser vices for Vernon Boelter that af ternoon. Francis Boelter returned home January 10 from a Norfolk hos pital where he had undergone surgery. Mrs. John Kotrous, Omaha, vis ited her sisters, Mrs. Harry Cas key and Mrs, Archie Moser last week. Thursday the ladies visited their sister, Mrs. Joe Jacot sr., Verdigre, who is a patient at the Lundberg Memorial hospital, Creighton. Mrs. Jacot was to have surgery Friday. Veldon Godel was admitted to St. Anthony's hospital, O'Neill, January 17. Atkinson News Roy Aten, proprietor of the At kinson Livestock market enter tained his employees and their wives at a dinner Wednesday eve ning at the Sale Barn cafe. Sev enty five guests attended the an nual affair. Gifts were presented. American Legion Auxiliary unit 8(» held initiation for 41 new mem-1 bers at the regular meeting held Wednesday evening at the Legion | Hall. Mrs. M. W. Ellenwood, unit ] president presiding. Among the new members are nine seniors and 32 juniors, including two in fants. Mrs. Robert Gaylor, unit offi cer, performed the initiation cer emonies. Each member received a poppy, a miniature flag and a I copy of the constitution. Arrangements for the program were made by Mrs. Gary Lech, rehabilitation chairman. Alvin Heese, Holt county service and member of the state rehabilita tion committee was guest speak er. A film on rehabilitation was presented and narrated by Mrs. Roy Ries. The film, produced at the Veterans hospital in Grand Island, included a presentation of Mr. I. 0. Ellenwood of Central City while a patient at the hos pital. Mr. Ellenwood is the fa ther of the president’s late hus band, M. W. Ellenwood. Thar program also featured a talk, f “Spelling out our Respon sibility on Legislation’’ by Ma belle Bauman, legislative chair man. Barbara Mlinar reported on Child Welfare and the needs in the local community. Plans were made to present all Gold Star mothers a lifetime membership in the Auxiliary. Ten dollars was voted for the March of Dimes program. A pan cake and sausage supper will be given February 9, late afternoon and evening at the Legion Hall for the benefit of the Good Sa maritan borne. A rehabilitation detail, includ ing a community carpet sewing bee will be held at the hall Feb ruary 6. Refreshments will be served. Members observing January birthdays were honored Memorial services will be held at the next regular meeting Feb uary 20 in honor of former mem bers, Mrs. Neal McKee and Mrs. Mildred Chace. Refreshment committee were Mrs. Roy Gilg, Mrs. Elene Gilg, Mrs. Ernest Gotschall and Mrs. Pete Gonderinger. Clearwater News Mrs. Charles Ctutrlght Winter S-S2M Mr. and Mrs. Charley Harvey are spending some time in Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Miller are spending the winter months in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Erick Minerich and Mr. and Mrs Earl Snider en tertained the YML pitch club at the Minerich home Monday night. High scores went to Mrs. Doug las Hemenway and Clarence Ah lers, and lows to Ileen Schmitz and Arthur Ahlers Mrs Claude Schrage was awarded traveling. Lunch was served by the hostess es. Fourteen youngsters registered Monday to start their first day of school. Mrs. Claire Utter-back has been contracted to teach the group. Mrs. Utterback taught here several years before going to Oregon. They returned to Clearwater last summer to make their home. Kindergarten young sters registering are. I Mrs. Howard l.uben spent the weekend near Chamber*, with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Brittell. Mr. and Mrs. George Neal, ac companied Floyd Neal to Tulsa, Okla , where they visited their son, Clark and family. Floyd went on to Arizona to visit rela tives. The local Chamber of Com merce elected officers at a re cent meeting. George Wrenbolt was named president; Hans An derson, vice president; Don Rus sell, secretary and Jeff Hinze, treasurer. Ge^irge Mummert and Harry Graham will head com mittees. Mrs. Ronald Sanne was the honor guest Wednesday evening at a post-nuptial shower at Con cordia Lutheran church Sharon Michael and Cheryl Rice were in charge of entertainment. The room was decorated in orchid and white. Bonnie Damme was in charge of the gift book. As sisting the bride in o(>ening her gilts were, Mr* John Damme. Shirley Damme. Cheryl Aiders and Cathy Wtegand. Relatives of the bride served lunch to the 45 guests present. Mrs. Randall Hixson has been named chairman ot the local folio drive that got un derway here Friday.
