She re ports the climate was wonderful and gardens have already been planted in the south. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hubby, Mr. and Mrs. William Hubby and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nelson were Friday evening visitors at the Ed Kaczor home. Gerald Kaczor left Monday for Omaha where he has enrolled as a student for the second semester at the Grace I Bible Institute. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Wyatt were Sunday p.m. visitors at the Carl Krogh home. Mr. and Mrs. Hi Johnson and family were Friday evening vis itors at the Elmer Devall home. The young adult class ventur ed out and braved the cold for a chili supper at the Carl Hallgrim son home Tuesday night. Eigh teen adults and six children were present. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walters and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Walters and boys and Mr. and Mrs. Mer lin Anderson and girls were Thursday supper guests at the Bennie Johring home. The occa sion marked Florances belated birthday supper. The Paddock Missionary society met at the Virgil Hubby home Friday afternoon. Seven mem bers were present and the ladies worked on Christmas cards pre paring them for missionary work. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence John son made a business trip to Sioux City Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Drueke have started building a new 3 bedroom home 24’ by 43’ with out garage, north of their pre sent location which they purchas ed from Will Devall nine years ago when he retired and moved to Spencer. The basement has been started' but the cold weather and snow have delayed their pro gress. Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Johring and family were supper guests at the Martha Johring home Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grutch were Thursday evening supper guests at the Roman Filip home and Roman and Doris were Sunday visitors at the Art Hrbeck home. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Devall and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Oswald Drueke home and Twila Hicks called in the afternoon. Mrs. Christine Johnson sold her home in O’Neill to Mr. and Mrs. James Cornell, Stuart, and mov ed into an apartment in O’Neill for the present. Her plans are to build a new home in O’Neill and she has already purchased a lot. Her children and grand children helped her move Mon day. Those taking part were Mr. P and Mrs. George Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Mer lin Anderson, Mr. and Mrs De wayne Anson and Mrs Sam Rob ertson served dinner to the group at her home Mr. and Mrs. Ben nie Johring also helped m the af ternoon. The safety club District 1 met Friday. Jan. 18. Roll call was answered by naming our favorite winter sport at the next meeting we are each to answer roll call with a two line verse for Valen tines day. The 7th graders gave a demonstration on Hi-way safe ty. Next meeting will be Feb. 14. News reporter, Kathy Searles. Page News Page WSCS met on Thursday Jan. 17 for an all day meelini with a covered dish dinnef at noon. Due to the weather, a small crowd was in attendance. In the afternoon Mrs. Robert Lin der gave the second and final part of the lesson on “Council of Churches”. This was followed by a discussion. An experimental project was discussed to hold bi ble study lessons for shut-ins. Mrs. Jessie Kelley read a letter asking if the society would be interested in donating money to ward the furnishings of the Meth odist floor of the new church peace center at the United Na tions in New York City. Twenty five hundred dollars is needed in Nebraska. The group agreed to donate some money. A plague will be hung telling that the fur nishings were from the WSCS. Cards of cheer and friendship were sent to Mrs. Elsie Naslund and Mrs. Dena Stevens. Barry Kelly, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kelley had the misfortune of getting his arm in the wringer of his mother’s washing machine Tuesday. He received severe burns between the elbow and the shoulder and is under the doctor s care. Mr. and Mrs. Don Luedtke and family, Wisner, were Sunday din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kelly. MYF met on Sunday night at the Methodist church with 10 members answering roll call. Lu Ann Nissen and Kent Stauffer had the lesson entitled ‘‘What is a Cur". It was announced how many absences each member had. A certain amonut is allowed and still be eligible to go on a trip this summer. Next Sunday Kar en Harris and Caroline Max will have the lesson. New sponsors were discussed and parents will take turns starting with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Asher. A dinner at the A. M. Beelaert home honoring A/2c and Mrs. Sanford Wagner and Sally Lynn was held on Wednesday. Other guests were Mr. and Mis.
