Ewing News By Mm. Harold Harris Guests Sunday at the home of •Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sojka sr. in Ewing were Dr. and Mrs Louis >Sojka and family of Columbus and Mr and Mrs. Stanley Sojka and family of Ewing Mrs. Jessie Angus fell at her borne Wednesday fracturing her left arm and receiving some bad bruises. Mrs. Kaijrfi Eacker ac companied by Mrs. Ed H >ag t/*ok her to the doctor at O’Neill. Thursday, where she was taken to the hospital for treatment of her arm which was put in a cast. Her sister and br«>ther-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoag are stay ing with her at her home. Callers on Sunday at the Angus home were Mrs. Lester Spragg, Mr and Mrs. Albert Larson, Mrs. Ralph Eaciter. The First Aid Class held its meeting Thursday evening in spite of the blizzard conditions Due to the small attendance prac tice work was done in artificial respiration and bandages (A var ious types. Howard Beckenhau er, the instructor came from Ne ligh. In attendance were Mines. Ralph Eacker, J. L. Prudcn, C C Hahlbeck, Weldon Alexander Mildred Bergstrom and Wayne Shrader and Bob Eppenbach. Mr Beckenhauer recently gave tests over the work covered. The largest attendance during the period of instruction so far was thirty-two. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban were Sunday evening guests at the home of Mrs. Anna Bollwitt and her brother, George Roeseh. Mrs. Marcella Bollwitt, who has been a patient at the Ante lope Memorial hospital since Oc tober 6 of last year was able t» come home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Urban went after her. Installation of officers of the Jephthah Chapter No. 85, Order of the Eastern Star was held at the regular stated meeting Tues day evening Mrs. Neva Bergstrom was the installing official, Miss Ina Ben nett, installing marshal, Mrs. Leona Davis installing chaplain. Mrs. Florence Hoke was in stalled as Worthy Matron and Samuel Burtwistle, as Worthy I Patron. Other officials in stalled were Mrs. Ann Carter, as sociate worthy matron, Wilbur Bennett, associate worthy patron; Mrs. Luella Bennett, secretary, Mrs. Beryl Wood, treasurer; Mrs Edna Pruden, conductress, Mrs Luc lie Btddlecome, associate con ductress; Mrs. Leona Davis Chaplain, Miss lna Bennett, marshal!, Miss Mane Davis, or ganist, Mrs. Neva Bergstrom, Auah, Mrs Fern Burtwistle, E* ther; Mrs. Anna Spence, Martha; Miss Vina Wood, Electa; Will iam Spence, warden. Mrs. Berg strom presented a gift to Mrs. Biddlecome, retiring worthy mat ron. A social hour followed with refreshments served by Mrs. Burtwistle and Miss Bennett The Young Matrons Pinochle club was entertained Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. K. Munn with Mrs. Earl Wright as co-hostess. All members were present. Score winners were Mrs. Archie Tuttle, Mrs. K. Jeffer les and Mrs. Gail Boies. Games were followed by a social hour and refreshments. Larry Tuttle visited Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Pierson. Larry who has spent the holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tuttle and other relatives left Saturday to return to Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Peterson and family of Neligh and his grandfather, Earl Posson were guests at the home of Mrs. Al thea Peterson, Sunday. Guests Sunday at the Anna Bollwitt home were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sturbaum. Christina, Becky, James and Teressa Hobbs entered the St. Anthony's hospital at O’Neill Thursday where they underwent tonsilectomies. Their mother. Mrs. William Hobbs and her daughter, Mrs. Clifford Steskal remained with them. They were able to come home on Thursday and are convalescing satisfactori ly at their home in north Ewing. Mrs. Minnie Larson was a din ner guest Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cary. Monday guests at the home of Mrs. Minnie Larson were Mr. and Mrs. William Hubei, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cary ac companied by Mrs. Mabel Boies and Mrs. Minnie Larson, went to Neligh Monday. Mrs. Boies, who has been suffering from a bad' cold went to the doctor for med- ' ical care and Mrs. Larson, a j physical checkup. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bartak and family visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. Laura Spittler. Dr. and Mrs. L. R. Suttcliffe, O’Neill, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Regan Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler had as their guests for an oyster supper Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Harris. Mrs. Roland Horde, Mrs. Al fred Napier and Glenda, Mr. and Mrs. L. Gunter visited Sunday with Mrs. Dewitt Gunter at the Lutheran hospital in Norfolk, and Mr. Gunter at a rest home. Mrs. Gunter, who has been hospitaliz ed since Newr Year’s day was feeling much better. The Ewing “No Thank You" Tops club held their regular meeting Wednesday afternoon at the C. C. Hahlbeck home with an almost perfect attendance. Sunday. Mrs Oscar Wilson of Elgin spent Monday at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Andrew Olson. Mr and Mrs. Ernest Norwood and Arlene attended church ser vice at the Wesleyan Methodist church in Page Sunday evening Arlene called at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Anna Thomp son while the Norwoods called on Rev. and Mrs. Lamb Mrs Fern Pollock, Mrs. Er nest Norwood and Mrs Alta Mey ers attended a joint meeting of the Women s Missionary Society of the Elkhorn Valley Associa tion held Wednesday afternoon at the Wesleyan Methodist church at O’Neill. Richard Meyers of Oakdale vis ited with his mother, Mrs. Aita Meyers Friday. Kindergarten began Monday morning, Jan. 14, at the Ewing public school with Mrs. Helen Grim as instructor. Fourteen pupils were enrolled. Kindergar ten pupils will attend both the forenoon and afternoon sessions, from 9:00 a m. to 11:00 p.m. to 3:15 each day. ‘‘Home Missions” was the theme of the month of January for the WSCS when they met Wednesday afternoon at the par lors of the First Methodist church. Mrs. L. A. Hobbs con ducted the devotional with Mrs. Curtis Roberts, pianist. She al so presented the lesson for the session. Mrs. James Tinsley, president, presided at the busi ness meeting. Mrs. Willis Rockey gave a report on the Study Course and after some discussion the group agreed for the study to be held on Tuesday afternoons. Music courses will be held February 17 at North Platte, Alliance and other towns Mrs. Roberts is music chairman A fund for Camp Fontenelle was discussed, also a United Nation plaque for Bishop Copeland "Thank You” cards were re ceived from those who received Christmas boxes, and from the L.
