Owen Donohoe goes high to bag this two pointer in the game played last Friday night between St. .Mary’s and Norfolk Burns. The Cards |Hilled out a close one, 55-54. Spencer Drops Cardinals 64-58 In Tournament In the first round of the Spen cer Invitational played at Spen cer Tuesday evening the Cards dropped a 64-58 loss to Spencer. A poor second quarter spelled defeat for the Cards as they drop ped behind 30-25 and were never able to catch up. The Cards hit 24 out of 45 attempts but poor ball handling and weak rebounding led to their defeat. St. Mary's will be idle until next Tuesday when they play host to the St. Ludger Comets. Holiday Tourney Set at Verdigre VERDIGRE — Verdigre (5-0) and Wausa (4-0) are favorites in the Verdigre holiday basketball tournament Thursday and Friday. First round pairings: Jan. 3 — 7 p.m., Wausa vs. Osmond; 8:30 p.m., Verdigre vs. Niobrara. The consolution finals are at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 and the champion finals at 8:30. Elks Lodge Names Top Youth Leaders Carl Clements, Stuart, was awarded first prize of $50 as winner of the Youth Leadership Contests sponsored by BPOE No. 1790, of Ainsworth. In addition to him being an outstanding athlete, he has the distinction of being elected class president for the past four years. After being tied 20-20 early in the second period the Cards turn ed l<xjse a scoring rally that hik ed the lead to 12 points, 32-20. The Knights outscored St. Mary’s in both second half peri ods but never quite caught up. Owen Ponohoe led the Cards with 18 followed by Mudloff with 12 and Hammond with 11. Craig Kinsella sparked Burns with 20 followed by Fillmer with 19. Former Resident Of Atkinson Dies in Wyoming Mrs. Joseph Koler, a former resident of Atkinson, died Dec. 16 in a hospital at Casper, Wyo., of a heart attack. She was a daugh ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hayes. Flowers was bom at Clearwater, March 2, 1900 and died Dec. 21 at the Antelope Memorial hospital He was united in marriage to Ora Depue, April 23, 1921.
