Amelia News By Mil* Florence Undoey Friends And relatives in this community were saddened by the death of Mr*. Delia Ernst, Dec. 19. She was with her duughter m law, Mm. Charlie Ernst at Wichita, Kan. Funeral services were in O’Neill Saturday morn ing. Don Clemen* has been serious ly ill in the Atkinson hospital. He was ill several days before it was diagnosed as a ruptured ap pendix. An emergency operation was performed Thursday evening at 6 o’clock and he is recupera ting satisfactorily. Don is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton (Bud) Clemens and a senior in Atkinson high school. Miss Venita White returned home from the holidays 1 hurs duy evening from McPherson, Kan., where she is attending Central coll&M. . Mr. and Mrs. Everett Smith returned to their home at Max well, Nebr.,. Friday alter visiting her sister and brother-in-law, . Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Waldo and their son, Hamp Smith and fam ' i)y. Mr. and Ml* Frank Pierce ac companied tneir daughter, Mrs. Charles Bligh, Alliance, to Oma ha Friday where they will visit over Christmas with their grand daughter, Mrs. Dick Brau and Mr. Brau. Mr. Bligh will also join them in Omaha. Jerry Dickerson, Tulsa, Okla., came Saturday to join his wife and son, Floyd, at the Clyde Burge home. Mrs. Dickerson and Floyd have been staying with her father, Clyde Burge, Robert, Joyce and Bruce since the death of Mrs. Burge the early part of November. The Dickersons will all return to their home in Tul sa alter the holidays where Mr. Dickerson is coach in one of the schools. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nielsen, Rodney and Brad, Omaha, spent Christmas with Clyde Burge and family. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ott, O’ Neill, Mrs. Gloria Landrum and Sally, Atkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott were Christmas dinner guests with the Floyd Adams fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Hienie Frahm, Patty, Douglas, Dannie, Sue and Gregg spent Christmas Day with her sister and family, the Walter Meyers, near Bassett. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bar nett, Greeley, Colo., came Friday night and will visit until after Christmas with their respective parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Bar nett, Amelia and Mr. and Mrs. Ned Aldersen, Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. William Schmit, Sara, Margie and Bill jr., Coun cil Bluffs, la., came Saturday night and visited over Christmas with her mother, Mrs. Gertie Adair. Mr. and Mrs. August Boltz, Grand Island, visited their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Berry Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Stark, Cer esco, spent the holidays with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hansen and family. Mr. and Mrs George Fullerton took the Dick Doolittle family to Grand Island Tuesday evening. Dec. 18, where they boarded a train for California to spend the holidays. Mr and Mrs. William Fryrear spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus. Mrs Art Doolittle and Dale took Mrs. Gertrude Marcellus to Omaha Wednesday from where she went to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Keeney and family, Bellaire, Tex. Mr. and Mrs Alvin Forbes, Gerald and Lesly, Fort Collins, Colo., spent the Christmas sea son with relatives and friends in this vicinity and at Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ciauson, Linda, Debra and Harold Lynn, Denver, Colo., si>ent the Christ mas holiday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gilman and Mrs. Margaret Ciauson. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fisher had as their Christmas holiday guests their daughter, Miss Dorothy Fisher, Potterville, Mich., and Mrs. Lynn Myers and her hus band and family, Covington, Ok lahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus spent Tuesday evening visiting Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Berry. Mrs. Lovina Thompson and Marilyn, Omaha, spent the holi day season with her sons, the Gene Thompson, Stanley Thomp son and Vernon Thompson fam ilies. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Milton, Den ver Colo., came Saturday to spend Christmas with her bro ther, Glenn White and family and her father, H. S. White. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Averill and , small son, Sekiu, Wash., came Sunday to visit over the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Walter, her sister and bro ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne 9mith and brother and wife, Mr. - and Mrs. Raymond Walter and family. The family were together Christmas eve at the Raymond Walter home and for Christmas dinner at the Wayne Smith home. Jim Cavanaugh, Algona, la., came Saturday to spend Christ mas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Cavanaugh and family. Jim is a radio engineer. Also visiting the Bernard Cava naughs is his brother, Dick Cav anaugh, Denver, Colo., who is al so a radio engineer. The latter also spent some of the holiday season with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cavanaugh sr., O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bar nett and daughter, Connie, Gree ley, Colo., came to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Alderson, Cham bers and Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Bar nett, Amelia. Spending the Christmas week end with the Rev. and Mrs. Earl Hess were their son and daugh ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Hess and children and their son Robert Hess, all of Wichita, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter were Sunday evening callers ui the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baker, Amelia. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hankins, Stanton and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peltzer, Norfolk, were visitors in the A. A. Walter and Ruben Pelt zer homes on Sunday, Dec. 23rd. Miss Connie Werner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wer ner, Chambers, was a passen ger on the plane which crashed at the Grand Island airport Friday. Miss Werner is a stewardess on the line but wasn’t working at the time. She is sjiending the holi days with home folks. A Christmas Cantata was pre sented at the Memorial Baptist church Sunday morning by the adult choir and on Monday eve ning there was a watch night service including music, film, message, etc. Santa Claus visited town Sat urday and in spite of the cold was greeted by a large turnout. The show “Teenage Millionaire” was presented free to everyone at the theatre. Mrs. Esther Wood is spending Christmas in Lincoln with her daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Hanna. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Winter mote and girls spent the past weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Thorin, Duncan. Among the guests attending the wedding of Keith Halsey and Ha zel Shauld at Bassett Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hol comb, Gary and Gail, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Young, Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Klabenes and family, Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Grimes and to at tend a wedding of Mrs. Grimes nephew, Keith Halsey at Bassett Sunday. Celia News Mrs. Mark Hendricks Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heiser at tended the Christmas program at school district 40. After the pro gram, games were played and a lunch was served. The school vacation will run through Jan. 1. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shane called at the Merrill Anderson home on business Tuesday. Arlin Hendricks spent Sunday afternoon at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Elmore Blain. He was also there for supper. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hendricks spent the day and evening at the Merrill Smith home Monday. Monday afternoon callers at the Mark Hendricks home were Mr. and Mrs. Adam Tindall. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hendricks spent Wednesday doing electrical wiring for Mr. and Mrs. Terry Wilson of Stuart. The Hendricks ate dinner and supper with Mr. and Mrs. Omer Poynts and also spent the night with them. Mrs. Bob Cearns spent Wednes day helping Mrs. Mark Hendricks with her house work. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Beck and family were Friday evening sup per guests at the home of Duane’s mother, Mrs. Helen Beck. Miss Dorothy Scott was a Sun day dinner guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Beck. Miss Karen Focken is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Focken. She will return to South Dakota where she is attending school January 3. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heiser and children and Miss Bonnie Dobro volny were shopping in O’Neill Friday afternoon. Mr. Charles Chaffin is home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chaffin for the holidays. On New Years Day he wilt re turn to Miltonvale, Kan., ^rhere he is attending school. The safety club elected new officers resulting in Judy Searles, president; Marilyn Risor, vice president; Sharon Anson, secretary, Pam Crawford treasurer and Kathy Searles, news reporter. Mrs. Dorothy Cur ran, tiie teacher, was presented a blanket by the pupils. Lunch was served by the mothers of the pupils, having birthdays in De cember. Mrs. Axel Borg and Mrs. Paul Nelson baked and decorated the wedding cake for Carol Lee Han sen and Arlin Eugene Svatos, Lynch, which took place on Fri day at Lynch.
