E. It. Carpenter The WSCS met at the Metho dist church Thursday afternoon with an attendance of 23. Plans for the annual Bazaar were dis cussed. The meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served by Mrs. Darrel Gillette and Mrs. G. H. Adams. Danelia Whitaker came home from Wayne for the weekend. Kenneth Taylor, student at Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, also spent the weekend with home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Row.se ami family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Turner. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter and his sister, Mrs E. C. Bourne, Colorado Springs, Colo., were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. ami Mrs. Dean Stevens and family, Atkinson. Other dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lewis and daughters, Linda and Con nie, Atkinson, and Mrs. Lewis’ parents, Mr and Mrs. Swim, Ainsworth. The trea surer announced the amount of the Fair and Horse Show pro ceeds which was the share the Auxiliary had earned. The amount was about 1150.00. Lunch was served by Mrs Peltzer and Mrs. George Cameron. A group of about 50 friends and neighbors gathered at the Joe Koci home Sunday evening for a social time. Lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. E M. Jarman and Doug returned Thursday from a week’s hunting trip in Wyom ing. They visited at the Herbert Neilsen home, Gillette, Wyo., while on their vacation. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Bourne and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bourne, Colorado Springs, Colo, and Ru by Branscom, Grand Junction, Colo., came Thursday and were overnight guests in the Erwin Carjienter home. All but Mrs. E. C. Bourne left Friday lor Water town, S. D., to visit the Bourne’s son the Rev. and Mrs. Erwin Bourne and family, returning to Chambers Tuesday to get his mo ther and going on to their home in Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walter left Wednesday for Detroit, Mich., to visit their son and daughter-in law Hr unH Ylrv PlnvH Walter and family. They expected to vis it their son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Norman Walter in Connecticut before returning home. Gerald Grimes, LaMont Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Wilkinson at tended the Theide and Sons sale, Gregory, S. D. Saturday. The Wil kinsons stopped at a ranch at Butte where they bought a num ber of cows and yearling heifers. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Carpenter and his sister, Mrs. E. C. Bour ne, Colorado Springs, Colo., who has been visiting them drove to Elgin Saturday where they call ed on the Frank Armstrong and Floyd Varn families and vis ited Mrs. Bertha Mtgnery. En route home they stopped for a short visit with Mrs. Carpenter’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carpenter, Neligh. Ray Sanderson, about 56 of Chambers, died suddenly at his home south of town Sunday. He, with help of neighbors was pre paring to load cattle when he was stricken with a heart at tack. The latter had been a patient in the Bryan Memor ial hospital. Allen Edwards, Ord, visited his mother, Mrs. Valo Edwards, Sun day. Mrs. Bert Farewell and Mrs. Letha Cooke called on relatives in the Stuart Rest Home Sunday. Gary Van Gerpen and J. Mead, Fremont, were dinner guests in the Edgar DeHart home Sunday while hunting in the vicinity. Mrs. Gene VanGerpen and daughter, Fremont, spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar DeHart. Mr. VanGer pen, who is with a construction company working at Holyoke, Colo., came for the weekend. Carina Harkins was an over night guest of Mrs. Charlotte Honeywell and Mrs Erna Tuck er Friday. Saturday, Carolyn Harley came and enjoyed dinner with the group. Both girls left later for their homes. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fry re turned Friday from Lincoln where they visited his brother and family. They also visited re latives in Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Coday, Cham bers and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klabenes and son, Todd, Albion, were dinner guests Sunday in the Clarence Fry home. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Grimes spent the weekend with their daughter, Edythe, Lincoln and his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grimes and fam ily, Milford. Attending Achievement Day in O’Neill Thursday were Mrs. G. H. Grimes, Mrs. Charles Grimes, Mrs. Bruce Grimes, Mrs. Melvin Bell. Mrs. RusspII Barelman am] Mrs. Roy Moore. Keller club met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. G. H. Grimes with 16 members, 3 guests and five children present. Roll call was answered by naming a favor ite bread. Mrs. Leitner, guest in the Clyde Keltz home, told of an interesting trip abroad which she had taken recently. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Gaius Wintermote *Oct. 17 with Mrs. Clyde Keltz, co-hostess. Mrs. Sarah Adams and Mrs. Dora Townsend went to Page Sunday to visit relatives and friends. Friends and relatives report that the small son of Mr. and Mrs. Bayne Grubb, Lincoln, was burned severly Sunday when he upset a cup of hot tea. He was taken to the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Wright were Sunday dinner guests in the Bill Logeman home. Supper guests were Mrs. Will David and Mrs. Earl David. The Richard Stark family, Va lentine, and Mr. and Mrs. Gar land Campbell and Mickey, Cecil, Bud, Clayton and William John son, South Dakota, spent Sunday with the Clifford Campbell fam ily. The Circuit Seven Sunday School Teachers institute will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church Sunday, Oct. 14, starting at 3 p.m. Zone six Walther League Rally will begin at 2:45 p.m. in Neligh at the Grace Lu-! theran church, Sunday, Oct. 14. All are asked to wear informal clothing. Registration fee, $1.25. Beautiful Valley Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Clifford Campbell, Tuesday evening with nine members and one visitor present. Roll call was answered by telling about the new gladioli they grew this year. A work shop meeting in Atkinson, Oct. 20, was announced. Tboae attend ing are asked to take a holUduy arrangement. Those helping were Lewis Bur gett, Gene Carr, Harvey Hanson and Paul Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Burgett and Wayne attended the horse sale at Peterson’s Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Jewett, Norfolk, visited and did some grouse hunting at Bernard Black mores Tuesday. Fredrick DeHart, Council Bluffs, la., visited from Wednes day until Sunday with his ne phew, Marvin Doolittle and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Doolittle, Ricky, Rodney and Timmy at tended the homecoming and foot ball game at Stuart Friday eve nig. They also visited Mrs. Elsie Doolittle and boys. Jimmy, Dennie and Micky Doo little, Stuart, chored at the Mar vin Doolittle ranch over the week end while they were overnight visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Roth and family, Valentine. Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear went to Spaulding Tuesday to attend the sale. He also attended the appaloosa horse sale in Atkin son Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nielsen, Rodney and Brad, Omaha and Mrs. Jerry Dickerson and son, Floyd, Tulsa, Okla., were here last week to attend the funeral of their aunt, June Burge. They also visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Burge. Blake Ott and Ralph Rees were Atkinson callers Friday after mowing the lawn for Blake’s daughter, Mrs. Gloria Landrum. They went fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adair, Jerry, Diane and Jeanie and Mrs. Gertie Adair were supper guests Satur day evening with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thompson were O’Neill shoppers Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adams were at the Atkinson clinic Fri day for Floyd’s check-up. The Doctor thought he was on the improving list now. He has been ill for about three weeks and not able to carry mail. Mrs. Tenus Madsen called on the Lindseys Thursday afternoon Mr. and Mr*. A. R. Fletcher, Daisy, Mike and Bobby and Ron aid Owings. Grand Island, Mr and Mrs. Charles Bligh, Alliance, .Mr and Mrs. Dick Brau, Omaha, were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs Frank Pierce. The men folks were here to do some Grouse hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Meyer, Janice and David, Bassett, visited at the Hieme Frahm home Sun day. Mrs. Maude Forbes is visiting her son. Ray Forbes and family near Whitman. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Widman entertained her uncle, Walter Dwyer, Fort Collins, Colo., as their house guest several days last week. Clarence Hansen and a neigh bor, Cereseo, Nebr., visited his son, Harvey Hansen and family Saturday. .Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Johnston showed films of their trip to the World's Fair Monday evening at the church. Mrs. Edith Andersen also showed some pictures taken while she was visiting her son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Newkirk and Scott at San Jose, Calif., this summer. WSCS met at the church an nex Wednesday afternoon for their business session and study lesson. The study lesson on the "Rim of Asia” was presented by Mrs. Clyde Widman. She was as sisted by Mrs. Vern Sageser, Mrs. Hieme Frahm, Mrs. Gene Thomp son and Mrs. Earnie Johnston. There were 15 members and 1 visitor, the Rev. Hess, present. Mrs. Lew Backhaus and Mrs. Lloyd Waldo were on the lunch committee. MYF members and their spon sor, Mrs. Edith Andersen and music leader, Mrs. Lew Back haus, met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Barnett Thursday eve ning and presented a program of songs and poems in honor of their wedding anniversary. Mr. an I Mrs. Earnie John’ston’ anniver sary was also near so they were invited for the evening meeting. They enjoyed ice cream and cake at the close of the evening. Jerry Prewitt, who has been in the Atkinson hospital with a bro ken leg, was released from the hospital Wednesday, Oct. 3. He still has both legs in a cast, but the break seems to be healing satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hansen and family were Sunday visitors with her aunt, Mrs. Beulah Grimes. Harold Kennedy was dismissed from the Atkinson hospital Wed nesday following an appendec tomy. He planned to go back to school Monday.
