Meek News By Mr*. Fred IJudberg Pupils of school district 1 who had birthdays during the vacation season were honored at a birth day party. A “Birthday Club”, has been organized at the school. Thus all pupils will be honored through out the school season. Mothers of children having birth days will act as hostesses, fur nishing the refreshments. Cup cakes, ice cream bars ami cool aid was served by the hostesses, Mmes. Watson, Harding, Searles, Anson, Kennis and William Han sen for this party The children honored were Bobby Hansen, Pat ty Watson, Kennis Harding, Mike Hansen, Sharon Hansen, Dennis Harding, Sharon Anson and Judy Searles. Mrs. Francis Curran is the teacher of this district. Mrs. Delia Harrison spent the weekend at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Petersen, O’Neill. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hubby spent Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Merlin Ander son. Mrs. Jessie Kaczor accompan ied her sister, Mrs. Clara Lar son, to Lincoln Tuesday. Mission ary Alton Perrin was in charge of the services the week before. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Anderson entertained as supper guests Mon day evening, Mr. and Mrs. Rus sell Woepell and family. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Johring, Clearwater, were Thursday sup per guests at the home of Don ald’s mother, Mrs. Martha Joh ring. Saturday night about 7:30 p.m. lightning struck a hay stack, set ting it a fire in a stack yard on the Kennis Hansen farm, just a short distance north of his build ings. Upon discovery of the fire, surrounding stacks were pulled away from the burning one a trench dug around it to keep it I from spreading. Later a hard wind from the north started blow ing, causing sparks to fly towards the buildings. Fearful that the buildings might be endangered, the O'Neill rural fire department was called. The fire was extin quished with no further damage. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Devall, daughter, Diane, and niece, Kath ryn Devall, spent Friday with Bill Harrison and family at Chad ron. On their return home Fri day night they sloped at Gor den to watch the O'Neill Eagles win the football game. Mrs. Fred Lindberg spent the weekend caring for Mrs. Tillie Schwindt who is home for a few days from the Bassett rest home. Mrs. Howard Rouse spent Thursday with her mother, Mrs. Carrie Borg, in O’Neill. Maude Rouse and Mrs. Edith Young al so visited with Mrs. Borg that af ternoon. Lightning destroyed a stack of hay on the Lyman Bursell farm Saturday night. Henry Storjohann and Mrs. Mar tha Johring were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Minnie Higgins, O’Neill. Green Thumb Flower club met at the home of Mrs Ed Boshart Wednesday afternoon. Roll call was answered by lourteen mem bers. Opal Miller gave the les son. Florence Schmitz had charge of the afternoon entertainment. Next meeting to be at the home of Mrs. Dale Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Johrmg and family spent Tuesday eve ning at the Allan Walters home. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Libby and son were supper guests at the Merlin Aderson home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Walters went to Norfolk Friday night. They left their sons with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Walters. Sunday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jensen visited with an old time friend of theirs, Salina Heb ner, Butte. Salina makes her home with Mrs. Charles Tomek. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Walters and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Anderson and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Johring and family and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Libby and son, Omaha, were Saturday visitors at the Henry Walters home. Mr. and Mrs. Libby and son arrived Friday night to spend the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Libby, Page and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walters, ONeill. They returned to Omaha Sunday evening. Mrs. Lyle Burgard, Niobrara, came for a weeks visit at the home of her sisters, Mrs. William Hansen and her mother, Mrs. Nora Nolan. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jensen were dinner guests at the Dave Moler home Thursday. Mr. Mo ler and Mr. Jensen put roofing on a building in the afternoon and Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Moler spent the afternoon in Atkinson.
