THE 12 CHILDREN OF THE James Cavanaugh family all made It for a reunion Sunday at the home o? their parents in O’Neill. The elder Cavanaughs have 26 grandchildren. THE GOODWIN FAMILY, 34 strong, attended a family reunion Monday at the Carl Hallgrimson home 13 miles north of O’Neill. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Goodwin and family, Tarzana, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Goodwin suid family, Dallas, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Goodwin, Broken Bow, Mr. and Mrs. Boh (I»is) Kandall, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Phyllis) Davis, all of Wood Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Yanita) West and family and Mrs. Myrtle Goodwin, all of Colorado .Springs, Colo. They all remained overnight at the Ilallgrimson home. While rain could not dampen their spirits, it did dampen the family, beginning just as this picture was taken. This is the first reunion of the Goodwin family in six years. Only one member, a granddaughter in California, could not attend. Atkinson News Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weckel and sons came from Centerville, Ohio last week and are spending some time visiting Mrs. Weckel’s sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frances Weller, and other rela tives. Dinner guests at Ihe home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peterson and family Sunday were Mrs. Peterson’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weckel and family, Centerville, Ohio. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Frances Weller and family was the scene of a family get to gether last Sunday when relatives of the Charles Weckel family gathered to climax their visit in Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stevens left last Friday morning to spend a few days vacation at points in Colorado. They expected to visit relatives in Ft. Collins. When they return they will be accompanied by their daughter, Cheryl, who has spent the past three weeks in Ft. Collins with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Theron Bogue and son spent last weekend vis iting relatives. When they re turned to their home in Chamber lain they were accompanied by Mrs. Gertrude West who will spend a couple of weeks in the Bogue home, before returning to Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Small drove to Halsey last Sunday where they attended the annual picnic for State Brand Inspectors. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Small and family, Minden. also attended the picnic. Kenneth is a brand inspector in that area. Mr. and Mrs. Gil Poese and family, O'Neill, attended the Ice Cream Social last Saturday night in Atkinson, which was sponsor ed hy the Presbyterian Mariners. Mr. and Mrs George Zaruba, Grand Island, spent a few days in Atkinson last week visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mills and family left Sunday for a few days vacation. They plan to go to Colorado Springs, Colo, and tour the many interesting points in that area. Mrs. Carl Schenzel of O’Neill spent Monday night and Tuesday with Mrs. Claude Johnson. This is Round Up week for our local teachers who are attending summer session at the Blair cam pus, as this is the final week for many. Mr.' and Mrs. Elmer Spann drove to Page Sunday where they visited her mother, Mrs. J. R. Russell. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haas and son, Bryan, came Sunday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wahl. The Haas family returned to Valentine that eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. John Olson were Sunday evening callers at the home of Vi Ashcraft and Vera Planck. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wahl and son, Rusty, came from Om aha last Monday to spend a few days in Atkinson with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Wahl and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weckel and sons left Tuesday after vis iting the past week with relatives and friends. They will tour the Badlands of South Dakota and spend some time in the Black Hills before returning to their home. They were accompanied by Mrs. Weckel’s mother, Mrs. Sadie Kaiser, O'Neill, who will spend about six w*eeks visiting in the Weckel home before return ing to Nebraska. Vi Ashcraft and Vera Planck returned last Thursday after spending the past ten days at Auburn where they visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clark. Mrs. L. G. Fleming was ad mitted to the Atkinson hospital last Saturday for medical care. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gokie Spent a few days last week in Yellowstone Park and other in teresting points in Wyoming and western Nebraska. They returned home Tuesday. The Gokie chil dren stayed with their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kramer. Mrs. Robert Thomas, Scott, Jeff and Bill came Monday to spend a few days visiting with relatives and friends. They ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thomas and family who had been visiting in North Platte. Robert Thomas will come to Atkinson this weekend and take his family back to their home in North Platte. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Henery, Ronald and Charlie came from Neligh Sunday to spend the af ternoon and evening with Mr. Henery's brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Richard- - son. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lyder and Randi spent a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Run nels in Stuart. They returned to Minneapolis Saturday. Mrs. Norris Johnson and family drove to Casper, Wyo., last Fri day to spend a few days in the home of her brother and sister in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy F. Mack. Mrs. Johnson was also ac companied by her niece, Patricia Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Schneider. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dickau came from Valley last Saturday to spend the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Dick au. They were accompanied by Don's mother, who has spent the past two weeks in Colorado Springs, Colo, with her son-in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stormberg and family. Mrs. Dickau also made the ac quaintance of a new granddaugh ter which is a “new addition” to the Stormberg family. Mrs. Stormberg is remembered as the Dickau s daughter, Donna. Mrs. Irvin Parsons was hostess last Wednesday to the members of the Civic Improvement Garden club. Mrs. Lester Fleming was in charge of the program on patio plantings. The hostess served lunch following the social hour. Mr. and Mrs. Frances Weller, Mrs. Sadie Kaiser, O'Neill, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weckel drove to Ainsworth Monday eve ning and were guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kaiser. They returned to Atkinson Mon day night. St. Ann's Guild of St. Patrick’s Altar Society met Friday eve ning at the residence of Mrs. Harry Lansworth, chairman. This guild will be in charge of lunch and entertainment a: the meeting Thursday evening. Joyce and Vicki Doolittle ac companied Mrs. Vera Paddock, Atkinson, to Lawrence, Kan., Fri day to visit their sister, Cathy Doolittle and Mrs . Paddock’s daughter, Cheri, who are attend ing school there. They planned to stop in Kansas City Saturday. The Rev. O’Donnell spent sev eral days last week painting at the new addition on the Amelia Catholic church. He stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Peterson while here. Mrs. Hale Kennedy and Debor ah, Linda and Sandra Tesch, Lin coln, came Saturday to visit re latives. Mrs. Kennedy and Deb orah -visited at the Bernie Ken nedy home over Saturday night and went on to Atkinson to visit her mother, Mrs. Straka. The Tesch girls are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle while their mother, Mrs. Gary Tesch is visiting in Califor nia. Mr. and Mrs. Art Doolittle and Dale, Sandra and Linda Tesch enjoyed a cat-fish dinner with Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Doolittle and Clinton Sunday. Mrs. Helen Pokomy, Don and Edythe, visited the Gene Schmit family, Osmond last weekend. Edythe stayed to visit her sister, Mrs. (Elsie) Schmit a few days before returning to Denver, Colo., where she is employed. Mrs. Gloria Landrum and Sal ly, Atkinson, spent a few days of their vacation the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott. They also visited at Homer, Nebr., with Mrs. Landrum’s cou im, Mrs Andy R*>ak and family. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Carr, Jim, Sharon and Pat have been vis iting the past two weeks with her mother, Mrs. Nellie Holcomb and brother, Lyle Holcomb and other relatives at Bay side, Calif. The Rev. and Mrs. Hansbcrry, Trenton, were camping on the church lawn last weekend and called on all friends in Amelia. The Rev. Hansberry served the Chambers-Amelia churches as their pastor ten years ago. Hail and wind struck in south west Amelia community Tuesday of last week. The home of Mis. Alice Prewitt and Leon Thomp sons were badly damged with the hail. Meadows and cornfields were also damaged. The house on the R. A. Ballagh place was struck and burned dow-n by light ning. We have heard of no losses of livestock. Mrs. Withers received word Sunday that her daughter, Mrs. Leo Carney, had undergone ma jor surgery Thursday at, Hays, Kan., hospital. Mrs. Lindsey, Mrs. Maude Forbes, Mrs. Effie Withers. Mrs. Delia Ernst and Florence Lind sey were picnicking at Goose Lake Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Doolittle, Sue, Barbara and Carla visited at the T. S. Doolittle home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Sinclair and family, Omaha, expected to ar rive Wednesday to visit her sis ter, Mrs. Lloyd Waldo and fam ily. They had visited another sis ter, Mrs. Lew (Beverly) Sperling and family at Cotesfield, since Sunday. Sandra and Jeanie Heck, O' Neill, spent the weekend with Janette Clemens at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mil ton Clemens, Janette is employ ed at the Segerwood Cafe in O' Neill. Mrs. Milton Clemens is suffer ing with a broken finger she re ceived when hit by a large hail stone during Tuesday’s storm. The family had sought refuge in a cave and while Mrs. Clemens was opening the door to look out, the hail hit her hand. She hail her finger treated at a Doctor's office, and he thought her acci dent almost unbelievable, but nevertheless we heard it from her. Mr. and Mrs. August Pospichal attended the Pioneer Day cele bration at Dwight last weekend. Gary and Gregg Pospichal, At kinson, visited their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pospichal the past week. Raymond Bly is a patient in St. Joseph’s hospital, Sioux City, la. He expected to have major surgery Tuesday morning. Mrs. Bly and her daughter, Mrs. Rich ard Harley went to Sioux City to be with him. Tommie Doolittle, Clinton Doo little and son, Bill, Gene Hansen and son, Billie were fishing near Bonesteel, S. D. over Thursday night and had very good luck. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees went to Bonesteel, S. D., Saturday and fished overnight. They did not have any luck fishing, so came home via Fort Randall Dam Sun day, where they picnicked and enjoyed the scenery. Tom Murray and daughter, De maris, were visiting at Floyd Adams Thursday evening. Tuesday’s storm tore down sev eral of the phone lines. Dennis Werner has been real busy get ting them fixed again. Ken Wer ner and wife and their daugh ter, Connie, are visiting the Har old Waldo’s in Fairbanks, Alaska. Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear were Norfolk callers Monday. Mr. Fryrear had surgery on his lip last week and was to have the stitches out Monday. Mr. and Mrs. William Fryrear visited at Frank Pierce’s Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vrooman, Cookie, Frank and Thane, Kent, Wash., came Wed. to visit his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus visited Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ber ry in O’Neill Sunday afternoon. Emmet And Community llolorr* Tum'iulrr A picnic dinner was held at the Atkinson park Sunday, July IS, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Tip ton, Rosalie , by irtends and neighbors of the Atkinson and Emmet community. Pleasant 4-Her'* 4-H club met at the Atkinson park for their picnic dinner. Everyone was pre sent. Swimming was the after noon entertainment tor the group.
