Mrs. Richard Poessnecker,
(neu Caroline Backhaus) was hon
ored Thursday evening, June 28
at a post-nuptial shower in the
Methodist church annex in Ame
lia. There were about fifty ladies
in attendance. Mrs. Blake Ott as
sisted -by Mrs. Tommie Doolittle
gave a humorous reading and
dramatization on “How Dress
makes the Person.” Another skit
representing a “Special Sale” at
Smith’s clothing store where
Mrs. Poessnecker is employed.
Mrs. Hienie Frahm, who took the
part of Caroline was in charge of
the store while the owners were
away and tried her best to please
her customers. Even the dummy
(Mrs. Gertie Adair) caused her
lots of trouble. Mrs. Glenn White,
Mrs. Harold Fullerton and Mrs.
Charles Bligh were the Custom
ers. Mrs. Ralph Rees, Mrs. Edith
Andersen and Miss Florence Lind
sey helped with the music. Mrs.
Vern Sageser helped sponsor the
shower. Mrs. Poessnecker receiv
ed many nice gifts. Her husband
Pvt. Richard Poessnecker is sta
tioned at Fort Leonardwood, Mo.
Vern Sageser entered the St.
Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill
Thursday for x-rays. He was re
leased Friday.

The Rev. and Mrs. Bob Kalb,
Kathy, Kent and Karla, Tyler,
Tex., arrived Thursday of last
week and visited her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Berl Waldo and other
relatives.
Mrs. Edith Anderson received a
telephone message from her son,
Roy Andersen, Central City,
Thursday evening telling that
their son Leslie had a broken
arm. It was caused by a tractor
injury.Mrs. Andersen went to
Central City Friday to be with
her son and family until Monday
morning when she will go by
train to San Jose, Calif., to visit
her daughter, Mrs. Bert Newkirk
and family.

Clemens in the head mechanic for
the Kewitt construction company
there. Their daughter, Betty, ac
companied them as far as Lan
der, Wyo., where she is visiting
her sister, Mrs. LeRoy (Esther
Floyd.

and sons, Loy and Russel and
their daughter, Vietta and her
little boy, Nevis, Minn., have been
visiting their daughter, Mrs. R.
Maas and family at Chambers,
his brother, Delbert Edwards and
family, Amefc and other friends
and relatives. They returned
home Saturday.

The Chambers Fire Depart
ment sponsored a July fourth
celebration at the fair grounds
starting with free pancakes at
5 p.m. They had a $600.00 fire
works display. There were plenty
ot stands and entertainment of
all kinds for all ages with a dance
in the evening. The usual July 4
celebration was held at the Mar
tha school house south east of
Chambers starting at 10:00 a.m.
with contests, children’s parade,
picnic dinner, races and ball
game in the evening.
The Betterways Extension club
sponsored the film “God’s own
Cow Country” which was shown
at the show hall in Chambers fol
lowing the regular show Saturday
evening. The film which is under
the direction of the “Sandhills
Cattle Association” was filmed in
the sandhill area of Nebraska.

M., to take their grandsons, Ro
ger and Phillip Turner home.
The boys have spent about a
month with their grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Turner at Cham
bers and with their other grand

ams, Atkinson.
Mrs. Fred Smith reports that
her da'ughter-in-law, Mrs. Rich
ard Smith, has recently under
gone surgery at the Silver Creek
hospital, Joliete, 111. The Richard
Smith family formerly lived at
Chambers.
Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Carpenter
drove to Atkinson Wednesday to
get their grandson, Bob Medcalf,
Minneapolis, Minn., who had been

neapolis, came Monday of last
week for a week's vacation with
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Maas and
girls and with other relatives.
The Rev. and Mrs. Charles Cox,
Ericson and their granddaughter,
Cheryl Ann Render, Mead, Kan.,
were calling on friends in Cham
bers on day last week.
Ida Belle Craig. Sacremento,

first of last week from the Lu
theran hospital, Sxhix City, where
she had undergone surgery.
Kellar club met Wednesday,
June 20, at the borne of Mrs. Er
nest Farrier with Mrs George
Cameron co-hostess. Nine mem
bers, 4 guests and 2 children were
present. Two of the guests were
Mrs. Ernest Staples, formerly
Alice Farrier and Mrs. Clarence
Vick, formerly Art a Farrier both
of Oklahoma City, Okla., anti for
mer resident of Chambers. The
door prize was awarded to Mrs.
Louts Netlson. The afternoon was
spent visiting. Lunch was served
by the hostesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gilbert
returned Monday from a two
week’s visit with their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
McAllister, Tekahmu. They also
visited some of their grandchild
ren and great grandchildren as
well as several of their friends
and former neighbors.

sent. The pastor, the Rev. Hess,
had been called to Independence,
Mo., earlier in the week due to
the death of an uncle and was
