were married June 17 at 2:30
p.m. in the Methodist church in
O’Neill. The Rev. Glenn Kenni
cott performed the ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a full length
gown of white lace over satin.
The skirt was fashioned with
three tiers of lace. A fitted bo
dice featured a peter pan collar
and long sleeves ending in bridal
points. She carried a white Bible
with white carnations.
Joyce Strong, maid of honor,
wore a blue taffeta dress with
white frocked organdy over the
ballerina length skirt with round
ed neckline and cap sleeves. She
carried a bouquet of white car
nations.
George Kotrous was best man.
Ushers were George Fuller and
Raymond Lampman.
Mrs. Harold Lindberg accom
panied Sasan Burney who sang
“Wedding Prayer”, “Because”
and “The Lords Prayer”.
Following the ceremony a re
ception was given by the bride’s
parents in the Methodist church
basement for approximately 120
guests.
The couple will reside on a
farm northeast of O’Neill.

Wedding June 16
In Ewing Church
Judith Diane Kaster and Leo
nard J. Kerkman were married
June 1<> at 10 a.m. in St. John’s
Catholic church in Ewing. Father
Francis Kubert solemnized the
ceremony.
The bride, escorted to the altar
oy her father, wore a chapel
length gown of chantilly lace that
featured a wing-tip collar and
tiny buttons and panels of lace
dropping to a V in the skirt front
and back. Her veil of silk illu
sion was held with a crown of
eed pearls and sequins. She car
ried a bouquet of white roses
and azure blue carnations.
Carol Kaster, sister of the bride
and Shirley Dryah were brides
maids. They wore street length
dresses of azure blue silk or
ganza with matching shoes and
headpieces with circular veils.
Brenda Rae Henn was flower
girl and Charles Thramer, ring
bearer.
Louis Kerkman, brother of the
bride, wras best man and Dean
Kerkman was groomsman.
Following the ceremony a re
ception for 200 guests was given
by the bride’s parents in their
home.
The bride was employed at An
telope Memorial hospital.
The bridegroom spent 6 months
in Germany with the Army. He is
now stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash.
Parents of the couple are Mr.
and Mrs. John Kaster and Will
iam Kerkman, Elgin.
Verdigre Couple Wed
In Catholic Ceremony

married Larry T. Shaffer. Creigh
ton. son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Shaffer. June 9 at 10 a.m. in
St. Wer.eeslaus Catholic church
in Verdigre. The Rev. Charles
J. Oiborny solemnized the doable
ring ceremony.
The bride, escorted to the altar
by her brother. Willard Stoural.
wore a princess gown of silk or
ganza. The floor length skirt fell
into a cathedral train. Appliques
of pearls and sequins trimmed
the lace on the skirt front. A
fitted bodice featured a scalloped
neckline trimmed in lace accent
ed with pearls and sequins. Her
bouffant veil was held by a crown
of pearls and aurora borealis.
She carried a bouquet of three
white gardenias surrounded by
white carnations.
Mrs. Willard Stoural was maid
of honor. Bridesmaids were Jo
vita Wagner, Harriet Hansen and
Ann Shaffer. The maid of honor
and bridesmaids wore dresses of
blue, pink, lilac and yellow, res
pectively, styled with detachable
overskirts over fitted taffeta
lined silk organza sheath dresses.
Each carried bouquets of carna
tions. to match her dress. Vicki
Stoural was flower girl and Kevin
Stoural was ringbearer.
Jon Shaffer, brother of the
bridegroom, served as best man.
Harold Theis. Tony Lindhorst and
Paul Stoural were groomsmen.
Ushers were Gene Shaffer and
LeRoy Kotrous.
Following the ceremony a din
ner for 175 guests was given by
the bride's mother.
After a wedding trip to the
Black Hills the couple will live
in Brunswick where the bride

Helen Gurnett, Ed Gatz
Wed in Omaha Rites
The wedding of Helen Jeanne
Gurnett. Omaha, daughter of
Mrs. John M. Gurnett and Ed
ward Erwin Gatz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. J. Gatz, was solemn
ized June 23 at 12 noon in St.
Margaret Mary's Catholic church.
Omaha. The Rev. Gerald Noonan
performed the Nuptial Mass.
The bride, escorted to the altar
by her brother, Dr. T. J. Gur
nett, wore a formal length gown
of skinner satin. The Elizabethan
bodice featured a bateau neck
line trimmed in Alencon lace re
embroidered in pearls and se
quins, buttoning down the back
with small covered buttons and
loops. Long fitted sleeves carried
the traditional bridal points to
the wristline. Unpressed pleats
gave exaggerated fullness to the
skirt, sweeping back into an aisle
wide chapel train. Lace appli
qued motifs were scattered on
the skirt and re-echoed on the
bustle effect bow placed at center
hack. Her two tier ballerina
length veil of imported English
illusion was held by a double
queen’s crown of seed pearls
trimmed with crystal bead drops.
She carried a cascade bouquet of
white roses and stephanotis.
Mrs. John Kerwin, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. Brides
maids were Mary Joy LcClair
and Peggy Gurnett. They wore
dresses of silk faced organza in
turquoise. The bodice of the
sheath dress featured shallow
scoop neckline and three quarter
sleeves. The pencil slim skii'ts
extended from a natural waist
line which dipped to a V in back.
Tiny unpressed pleats on either
side gave ease to the hips. An
overskirt of unpressed pleats
graced trie dress. To complete
the ensemble the attendants wore
matching pill box head pieces

where they visited their daugh
ters, Mary Kathryn and Veronica
and several friends and relatives.

and is in St. Mary’s hospital at

Another contest was concluded
for the the Waistline Whittier’s.
Like the previous one it ended in
a tie but rather than extend the
time a new contest was started.
This time the members will be
placed in several groups accord
ing to each one's goal. Each
group will then have a winner
and a loser at the end of the con
test. However, each winner must
retain her weight thereafter for
three weeks. Then the losers will

card party. At our last meeting a
former member was reinstated
and a new member added to the
group.
Tentative plans were made to
hold a rummage sale. Lou Kling

Mr. and Mrs. Eld ward Campbell
and children returned to Green
Bay, Wis., Sunday. They have
been visiting his parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Campbell, for the past
ten days.
Mrs. Loretta Hynes and Mr.
and Mrs Jerry Schmaderer went
to Omaha Friday, returning Sat
urday.
Mrs. Don Berg and children
are guests of her mother. Mrs.
Mary Biglin. They arrived from
Casper, Wyo., Saturday.

Alois Babl Dies
At Home in Newport
Alois Babl died June 23 at his
home north of Newport. Funeral
services were held June 27 at 10
a.m. in St. Boniface Catholic
church in Stuart. The P.ey. A J.
Paschang officiated. Burial was

fant veil. She carried a cascade
bouquet of stephanotis centered
with a white orchid
Patricia Heermann, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor and
Barbara Yurchak was brides
maid. They wore identical dress
es of light aqua organzu over
matching taffeta. The street
length sheath dresses were fash
ioned with scoop necklines and
three quarter sleeves and match
ing organza overskirts. They wore
small bouffant veds held by a
cluster of light aqua flowers.
Each carried a colonial nosegay
of aqua pompons.
Jerry Gokie, brother of the
bridegroom, was best man. Ush
ers were Bob Eby and LeKoy
Kelffer. Soloist, Doug Spittler,
was accompanied by Mrs John
McCarville.
A reception-luncheon was given
by the bride's parents in the Tro
pical Gardens for 100 guests.

Bainbridge Dies
In Iowa Rest
Home Sunday
BRISTOW Juniata A Bain
bridge, a pioneer resident, died
Sunday in a Sioux City, la,, rest
home two days fiefore reaching
her 95th birthday.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Meth
odist church in Bristow. The Rev.
V. R. Daniels officiated. Inter
ment was in the Bristow’ ceme
tery. Jones Funeral Home was in
charge.

The late Mrs. Bainbridge wa ■
bom June 26, 1867 in Iowa, a
daughter of John and I»uise
Hartung. She came to Boyd coun
ty in 1894. Loiter she move*! to
Kansas to live with an uncle and
returned here in 1901, She began
working in the Bristow postoffice
at the time it was starred.
She manned John Bainbridge
May 17, 1905. Mr. Bainbridge
died in 1953. She continued to
reside here until two years ago
when she entered a rest home
in Sioux City.
A son, Ralph, Bristow, is her
only immediate survivor.

Resident Dies

Mrs Fred Varcoe, 88. Spencer,
died in California June 19 Fun
eral services were held Sunday
at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church
in Spencer. The Rev. V. R. Dan
ials officiated. Interment was in
Union cemetery.
Ada May Hight was bom Jan
uary 18 1874. in Walker. Ia., the
daughter of Simon and Lydia
Hight. They came to Knox county
wren Ada was a young girl. In
1890 she married W. P. Canning.
Four children were bom to this
union. They moved to Spencer
Community in 1929. Mr. Canning
died in 1938. August 18. 1941, she
married the Rev. Fred Varcoe.
He preceded her in death in
1952. She continued to live in
Spencer until two years ago when
she moved to California to live
with her daughter.
She is survived by one son,
Claude Canning, Seattle. Wash.,
and three daughters, Mrs. Wini
fred Simmon. Cayucos. Calif.,
Mrs. Florena Loomer, Coalinga’
Calif., and Mrs. Ian Cottington’
Ayrshire, Ia.
Pallbearers were Dr. J. M.
Pucelik, Fred Fuhr. Emil Klasna,
