Lyle Heiss, Page, has finished
basic training at Fort Leonard
Wood, Mo. He graduated with
honors and was selectded soldier
of the cycle of his company. He
also received an award for fir
ing the highest score in his bat
talion. He will go to Fort Chaffee,
Ark. after returning from a two
weeks stay with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ivan Heiss.
Mrs. Marvin Stauffer held a
coffee Monday morning in hon
of her husband’s aunt, Mrs. Spen
cer Miller. The guests included
Mmes. Robert Gray, Arnold Ste
wart, Edgar Stauffer, Dale Stauf

Mr. and Mrs. Edd Stewart and

where Mr. Stewart is attending
custodian school.
The senior MYF met Sunday
night with Linda Smith having
the lesson “The World Council of
Churches”. There were two vis
itors, JoAnn Schwager and Den
nis Mitchell, Tiffany, Wis. Elec
tion of officers was held. Caro
line Max, president; Juanita Rag
land, vice president; Connie Nis
sen, secretary and Kent Stauffer,
treasurer. Starting next Sunday
night an attendance program for
a camping trip to Long Pine will
begin. Each member will be al
lowed eight misses. John Crumly
and Dick Linder will give their
report on Camp Fontelle at the
next meeting. Everyone is urged
to bring a guest. At the end of the
meeting the group surprised Dick
Linder at his home in honor of
his birthday. Mrs. Linder served
lunch.

A surprise birthday party was
held Sunday evening for Bill

The Nifty Needlers 4-H cliub
met Saturday with Mary Ann
Beelaert. Roll call was answer
ed by telling ways of saving
mother’s steps. The group had
group singing accompanied by
Jolene Grass on the accordian.

cation Bible school this past week
at the Page Methodist church.
The program was held Friday
mght with a large crowd attend
ing. School was out on noon Sat
urday. The children's offering
will be sent for medical work in
Latin America. An offering was
taken at the program to defray
expenses.
Memorial Day services were
held Wednesday afternoon at the
Page school auditorium sponsor
ed jointly by the American Le
gion and Auxiliary. The opening
prayer and benediction were giv
en by the Rev. Robert Linder.
The band under the direction of
Mr. Leonard Sawyer played sev
eral selections. Dr. Neal Hassel
bach, St. Edwards, was the prin
cipal speaker. The balance of the
program was held at the cem
etery. Mr. William Howell, sgt.
at arms, placed the poppy wreath
on the tomb of the unknown sold
ier in honor of the dead. This
was followed by a salute by the
firing squad and Taps by Mr.
Sawyer. Keith Kennedy was the
squad leader. The color bearer*
were Mrs. Ben Asher, Marlene
Frahm, Lee Fink and Lloyd Cork.

held on Saturday night, June 9,
for Jeri Luebcke, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Luebcke,
at the Improvement club building
at 8 p.m.
The Rev. and Mrs. Robert Lind
er left on Tuesday to attend Con
ference at Lincoln. While they
are gone, Mrs. Thomas Mullen,
Grand Island, will keep house
for the Linder children.
The Improvement club held
their annual breakfast Monday
morning with 15 members attend
ing. The officers for the coming
year were sworn in. They are

June 4 at 4 p.m. Dr. Charles
W. Mayo, of the renouned Mayo

dress. The ceremony was held in
the Ira J. Taylor Physical Ed
ucation Building.
Myrna, a member of Alpha
Gamma Delta Sorority, received
a bachelor of arts degree with a
major in natural science. She had
been active in Young Republi
cans, chorus and several operas.
Next year she plans to work as
a medical technologist.

Chris Madsen, who has been
quite ill and a patient in the Bur
well hospital, is unproved and
now at his home in Burwell. He
is Tenus Madsen's father and well
known in the Amelia community.
Mr. anti Mrs Jack Gilman and
daughter, Omaha, were home for
the weekend.

niece, Caroline Backhaus, at the
Lutheran church in Atkinson Sun
day evening Mr. and Mrs. Roy
