in their home Sunday night.
Donald Roth came from O'Neill
Saturday to spend the weekend
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Roth.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kram
er left Sunday for a vacation trip
to Washington state where they
will visit relatives. They also
plan to attend the World's Fair
in Seattle.
Mrs. David Leighton left Sat
urday for California where she
joined friends and enplaned for
Tokyo. Japan where they will
join their husbands who have
been sent to Tokyo for a rest
period. Lt. Leighton is a heli
copter pilot and has been station
ed in South Viet Nam. Mrs.
I^eighton is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. E. E. Gotschall.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fullerton
and family came from Norfolk
last Friday to spend the weekend
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
C. F. Small and other relatives
and friends. They returned to
Norfolk Sunday.

Heather Gaile, born May 16 at

at 7 pounds and 7 ounces. Mr.
Coxbill came home Friday eve
ning.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Richardson
accompanied Mrs. Elizabeth
Ryan and David to Lake Andes
last Sunday where they toured
the storm area.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Skrdla
drove to Lincoln where they at
tended the Region 21 American
Iris Society’s annual tuor. They
returned home Sunday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Lance Withers
went to Chadron last Sunday
where they met their grandchil
dren. Rick and Bohby Frisch,
children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Frisch who live in Boise. Ida.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Withers
and family, Chadron, spent their •
vacation in Boise and when they
returned to Chadron, Rick and
Bobby came with them to spend
the next three weeks in Atkinson
with both their grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Withers and Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Frisch and other rela
tives.

were Sunday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. James Deming.
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McClurg.

of their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Elmer McClurg. They also at
tended graduation exercises at the
Atkinson public school. Their
sister. Donna McClurg, was a
graduate. After the graduation
exercises they were joined at the
McClurg home by Mr. and Mrs.
Warren McClurg. Bassett, Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Mulford, Stuart,
and the Rev. and Mrs. William
Mulford. Duluth, Minn. Mrs. Mc
Clurg served lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mulford,
Hastings, visited in the home
of his parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Mulford a few days last
week.
Mrs. Calvin McClurg and Mar
cia, Broken Bow, are spending
a few days with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. James Allyn. north of
Stuart. Calvin came to Atkinson
Wednesday afternoon to attend
Memorial Day services.
Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Hickok left
Tuesday for Douglas. Wyo. where
they spent Memorial Day. They
expect to be gone several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tooker and
children are spending a few days
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Humphrey, until housing
can be arranged in Spencer,
where they plan to make their
home.
Mrs. Morris Johnson came Sat
urday from Omaha to spend the
weekend. When she returned to
her home on Monday, the John
son children remained with their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Mack.
Mr. and Mrs. Denton Colfack
and Wanda. Butte, were Sunday
dinner guests of his parents. Mr.
and Mrs. Emil Colfack and Den

The community reecived a nice
rain from .90 to 1*4 inches about
4 a.m. Saturday. The rain was
accompanied by some electricity
which struck a tree at the Elmer
Devall home and followed the
telephone line into the house.
They were awakened by the loud
clap of thunder and could smell
smoke in the house. The sideing
on the outside of the house was
scorched and the phone was burnt
out.
The Rev. and Mrs. Turner, Im
perial. were present for the morn
ing worship services at Paddock
Union church Sunday.
Mrs. Allen Walters and boys
and her grandfather, Hal Rosen
krans, went to Pender Thursday
to meet Mrs. Hal Rosenkrans and
Clara Aim who were returning
from a weeks visit at Pine Is
land, Minn., where they had gone
to visit at the home of her son
in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Edwards and to get
acquainted with their new twin
daughters.
Mrs. Christine Johnson and
Mrs. Cora Cla'ussen were lunch
guests at the Sam Robertson
home Friday evening.
Sue Nelson and Sharon Anson
were visitors at the Jessie Kac
zor home Sunday evening.
Mrs. John Sutherland and John
Mark are visiting at the Paul
Nelson home. They came Sunday
and plan to remain until decora
tion day. She will then visit her
brother and sister. Atkinson, be
fore joining her husband to re
turn to Foreign Mission field for
another 5 year term. Mrs. Suther
land (Lucille) and Marjorie are
sisters. Mr. Sutherland, a medi
cal missionary is teaching in Ida
ho, during his year furlough.
Senator Frank Nelson took in
the Rock County Diamond Jubilee
at Bassett Friday and report
ed it very interesting.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lindberg
were callers Monday evening at
the F. E. Anderson home in New
port. Gene is confined to his bed,
suffering from a heart attack he
had several weeks ago.

by, Mrs. Carrie Borg and Marvel
and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rouse
and family were dinner guests at
the Howard Rouse home Tuesday.
Marie and Marriedy, Carrie and

from Springfield, Mo., where they

The Green Thumb garden club
met Wednesday evening at Opal
Hammerluns. Nine members were
present. Roll call was answered
with a Mother’s day poem. The
lesson was given by Florence
Schmitz on transplanting plants.
Mrs. Bob Sanders joined the club.
Opal Hammerlun won the dooy
prize. Next meeting will be June
27 at the John Schmitz home.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Mann and
family attended a family picnic
at Yankton, S. D., Sunday and
their two children, Paul and Bar
bara went home with their grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sigurd Jen
sen, St. Edwards, for a couple
weeks vacation.

Jerry Tams, a former student
of the Ewing high school, grad
uated from the Battle Creek high
school with the class of 1962 and
was presented a scholarship for
Norfolk Junior college. His grand
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Tams, Ewing.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tucker vis
ited their grandson. Ricky, at
St. Anthony’s hospital Saturday
where he had undergone a tonsil
ectomy. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Lyle Tucker, O’Neill.

ern states, attended the World’s

Norton, arrived home Saturday
evening for 30 days leave with
his parents, friends and relatives
He just returned from 11 months
in Okinawa. He will return to
El Toro, Calif., and has 15
months more of service.
Mrs. Joe Hall and her mother,
Mrs. Coral Finch, accompanied
by Mrs. Earl Cadwallader, spent
Friday in Norfolk.
The children and families of
Mrs. Cecila Garwood, Atkinson,
gathered Sunday at the home of
Mrs. Cecila Garwood to honor
Dean Garwood who is home on
leave. There were about 45 guests
present. A cafeteria style dinner
was served.
