Mr. and Mrs. Louis Burgett spent Saturday and Sunday at Bassett where they visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Har lan, and also attended the Cen tennial celebration in Bassett. Mrs. Phillip Millerson, Sacra mento, Calif., has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Madsen. Burwell and her brother, Tenus Madsen and family near Amelia. Mrs. Millerston, the former Mae Madsen, came be cause of the illness of her father, Mr. Madsen, who will be 85 years old in June. He entered the Bur well hospital again Monday morning for further treatment. He had been hospitalized pre viously. Neal Madsen attended the jun ior rodeo at Burwell Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Skala and Kelly, Fremont, were here to at tend the wedding of her cousin, Joan Fullerton, and visited over Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fullerton. Mrs Orland Fryrear and Delbert Edwards are niece and nephew of the deceased. A new wing is being construct ed on the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Amelia. The founda tion will begin as soon as pos sible. The Rev. Chambers painted the new’ addition at the Mission church on Highway 11, south of Swan Lake last week. The Rev. and Mrs. James Mintle are the residing minister and wife. Patty Frahm accompanied her aunt, Mrs. Pearl Briggs and fam ily to their home near Rose, Wednesday, for a few’ days visit. Mrs. Let ha Cooke, Chambers, entertained several ladies Wed nesday evening at a fish fry and later took them all for a ride in her new car which was a Moth er’s day gift from her son, Ber nard. The group accompanying her to Amelia where they called on Mrs. Lindsey and Florence were Mrs. Etta Keller. Mrs. Cordia Smith, Mrs. Valo Ed wards, Mrs. Mae Hubbard and Rena Coppoc. Mrs. Hubbard and Mrs. Cooke also called on Mrs. Dunk Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Asa Watson at tended graduation exercises in Atkinson Thursday evening. Their daughter, Joyce, was one of the graduates. Scotty Fix, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fix underwent surgery for removal of adenoids at the Burwell hospital, Tuesday. The Alfred James ranch has been sold and the new owners, Mr. and Mrs. William Wolcott and family, formerly of the Wood Lake area moved to the ranch last week. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fisher were pleasantly surprised Thursday evening when a group of friends and neighbors gathered at their home to celebrate their wedding anniversary'. Lunch was served later. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Kenny, Atkinson to Amelia mail carriers went to Douglas, Wyo., Saturday afternoon to visit their son, Dale, and family. Their little grand daughter, Debby, who has been w'ith her grandparents for several weeks returned to her home and their grandson, Bobby, planned to come home with them for the summer. Maynard Coleman car ried the mail for them while they were away. Mr. and Mrs. August Pospichal were shopping in O’Neill Thurs day. Denny Doolittle, Stuart, has been helping his brother, Marvin since school closed. Mr. and Mrs. Troxell Green and family and Mrs. Hamp Smith attended graduation exercises Friday evening at Central City, at the Nebraska Christian high school. Shirley Green, one of the graduates, is a daughter of the Troxell Greens and Mrs. Smith is her paternal grandmother. Shirley plans to be married June 2 to Neal Garwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Garwood. The young couple will make their home on the Garwood ranch, re cently vacated by the Gerald De Grofs. Darla Waldo assisted with the Daily Vacation Bible school at Chambers Methodist church last week. Mrs. Elmer Coolidge was an O’Neill caller Thursday. Mrs. Lew' Backhaus and Mrs. Milton Clemens helped paper at Levi Clemens Wednesday. Robert Burge has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Burge since Saturday, lie plans to return to Oklahoma in about two weeks to attend summer school. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fisher planned to go to Greenville, 111. this week to attend graduation exercises at Greenville college. Their daughter, Dorothy, was one of the graduates. She plans to attend summer school. Mrs. Effie Withers and Mrs. Delia Ernst returned home Fri day after spending the winter with relatives in Kansas. Mrs. Withers was at Hays, Kans. with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Carney and Mrs. Ernst w'as with her daughter-in law’, Mrs. Lela Ernst at Wichita, Mr. Carney brought them home and went to O'Neill Saturday to meet his son and family, Omaha. They were here to attend the wedding of Roy's cousin, Joan Fullerton and Ken Matthews Sat urday afternoon at the Methodist church in Chandlers. Get-Together-Club met Friday with Mrs. Norman Saltz with 12 members present. Future plans were discussed to hold a theatre party as well as go on a tour. Dr. Neal Hasselbach will be the principal speaker on Memori al Day at the school auditorium at 2 p.m. The Legion will hold rites at the cemetery afterwards. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. The relay team (DeVon Kemper, Jan et Anson, Lindu Alberts, LuAnn Nissen) came in 5th in the 440 | yard relay, time was 57.5 sac-1 onds. Janet Anson came in 1st in her race and qualified for the quarter finals. Luann Nissen and Linda Alberts came in fourth in their race. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Heiss celebrated their son Alvin’s 10th birthday Sunday, inviting the fol lowing for dinner; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Asher and family, Pow ell, Wyo and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Fink and family, Broomfield, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heiss and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Heiss and Nadine.
